HMCS Windsor and her crew had a feature story done by the Ottawa Citizen at: http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/story.html?id=f4ffb47e-8ef3-4c9b-8cc9-7f17a2b0c658&k=47471

It reminds me of how my dad would smell after coming home form sea. Very interesting indeed. Submarine are something I'd consider, after I'm MOC qualified of course. It would be an honour to be a part of such a close knit comunity, and those dolphins on your uniform don't look too bad either.

An interesting read....
I think back to the movie "das boot" and these observations are pert much "spot on"

Hey guys....if anyone knows, How much extra do submariners earn per month?  Also, is it true they stay in hotels while in port?
Cheers
Steve :cdn:

SUBSPA + Submarine Allowance is a good deal!  I'd do it for free!  Well not for free, I would need some money to buy wipes and gold bond.

Throw in free hotels and vittles and that makes it even better!

We were getting just over 50 pounds a day for food in Faslane back during the Chi days.  Do your math and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that 6 weeks of this was a good deal, and there was no way you could spend it all.

The best thing about the sub community is the people, they are totally different than those on the surface, and that is a good thing.  I found on the surface you got treated like kids, and below the waves you got treated with respect.  I don't know what the deal is with surface officers but those with dolphins on are much better to work with. (MY OPINION)

Anyway this was an excellent article it almost makes me want to withdraw my OT application, but something tells me the AESOP community is just as tight and even more challenging.

Hey- this could be alot of fun.  Look forward to seeing you on the flight line!

I don't know how those folks do it.  I am not sure I would want to be underwater in a tube that can collapse...I'll stick to a trench or OP any day, thanks.

:salute:

Hmm.....

What's long, hard, cigar shaped and full of se(a)men?

Funny because the thought of sitting in a muddy/rainy/cold trench makes me think the same thing!  ALTHOUGH I would love to take a LAV through a muddy field!

But deep down we all do it for the same reason.  (theres more porn in the tube though)

Whats long, black and full of seamen?    Your worst nightmare! (as a white guy this joke works on so many levels)

I'd like to get my sub qual someday, but I'm not quite sure how long I would want to be aboard the subs, because I often hear that it is a really stressful posting. does anyone know what the average time is that people serve aboard submarines?
