Suggestion Needed

Hey guys, well i am Phil, and I was interested in joining the army in the infantry. I do alot of sports, right now I am in track and field and did soccer in the

summer. I dont really like reading, I like more physical stuff. Basically, when thinking about joining the army in the infantry, I have second thoughts about it.

I am not so sure and everything, in a way i am scared a bit. But I know I would love the training and the hard work. I know the infantry would be a place for

me to be, really pushing my limits. So I was wandering what you guys had to say.....

Also I had a couple of questions.

1) Can you get deployed straight after you are done your training? Which is about 6 months I think...

2) Can you decide if your basic training is done English or French?

3) Are they weight rooms near the camps or inside that you can attend too?

4) Are you allowed to have a laptop or a digital camera?

5) After deployment, do you have vacation?

Your going to have a lot of problems in any Trade in the CF, not only the Infantry, if you don't get an education and do some reading.

I already read, I looked at stickies. But I guess ill read again, but could you give sugesstion to my first paragraph I wrote....

I'm sorry but I didnt really understand what you were attempting to communicate across, and I really cant find the first para either. I could help you by pointing you to the 'search' function, which would require you to also sift through alot of important info inorder for you to get to exactly what you want. Reading is required. Good luck.

Maybe I am way out to lunch, but I thought our poster was looking for some comments on what "infantry life" is like, and my lil PEI brain told me that maybe his first language is French, just by the wording of some of his post.

FWIW, I PMd him my thoughts on his questions, but didn't touch the life as an infanteer stuff, as I would be talking out of my lower-hole.

I guess what I meant to say was, did you guys have second thoughts about joining before enlisting? Do you think joining the forces was a good decision?

Now that the "BLARGH! USE SEARCH" is out of the way, here are the A's to your Q's:

1) Can you get deployed straight after you are done your training? Which is about 6 months I think...

    My coursemates and I finished Battle School in Wainwright 17 August 01. You know what happened less than a month later.   My coursemates who went to 3 PPCLI were overseas by February 2002, I went over with 2 PPCLI in March 2002. However, we were almost set to go by November 2001.

2) Can you decide if your basic training is done English or French?

  Training is done in the language of your choice.

3) Are they weight rooms near the camps or inside that you can attend too?

   All the bases on which I have worked have had extensive fitness centers.

4) Are you allowed to have a laptop or a digital camera?

   Laptops: my Basic and Battle School instructors locked up our entertainment gadgets, and we got them on some weekends.
   Cameras: I have many pictures that I took during my courses. However, your cameras will be confiscated when you take the tour of 1 CAD's basement. (They want maximum deniability of the Arrows, UFO's, and frozen aliens.) Leave the digital at home and get a disposable. Shiny stuff may disappear or break.

5) After deployment, do you have vacation?

   Had a couple weeks off after battle school.

And as far as "Your going to have a lot of problems in any Trade in the CF, not only the Infantry, if you don't get an education and do some reading," well, no, YOU'RE probably not. YOUR instructors will teach you everything you need to know.

Furthermore Phil,

You will have time off when you come home from being deployed overseas, the length varies, but I had over a month of leave.
