It may not be an appropriate time to visit the UK.

Mod edit to make thread title a bit more specific - will change again if it continues past the summer. Milnet.ca Staff

The biggest issue I have wirh the media coverage of the unrest so far has been labeling the protesters as "far right" and "far right extremists"

While at the same time seemingly turning a blind eye to the groups of immigrant youth who have been violently assaulting people (even just over these last few days) as mere "asylum seekers"

Not everybody protesting the mass immigration to their fairly small country is of the far right, nor is everybody on the opposing side an asylum seeker.

(If you're fleeing a shitty country and a poor quality of life in that country, I wouldn't be causing ANY problems in the country you're trying to seek asylum in...)

Native Britons have every right to be pissed off with mass immigration that they didn't vote for, weren't consulted on, yet is having a very real impact on their day to day lives & the future of their country

Highly localized, and fun to watch from afar with a pint in one's hand on a sunny summer's eve ;)

From reading this, similar arguments might be made here.

Federal government announces crackdown on ‘bad actors’ abusing the temporary foreign worker program

Employers were given the green light to hire 239,646 temporary foreign workers in 2023, according to data from ESDC — more than double the number in 2018 when 108,988 TFW positions were approved.

Its little wonder that unemployment of Canadian youths between the ages of 15-24 was 13.5% for the month of June, the highest September 2014 (youth unemployment is now higher than during the Pandemic).

The rate of unemployment among university/college students between semesters at school is at its highest level since 1998, StatCan said, as less than half (46.8 per cent) of this cohort found jobs this summer.

The information above is very similar to what's fueled the current situation in the UK - loss of jobs available to those already living in the country, rising numbers of foreigners/foreign workers/asylum seekers.

And it’s made some unlikely allies in Belfast. The UDF and IRA united in rascism.

It caused my wife to dissallow my periodic Tim Hortons run to Belfast.

I recall a time when Belfast residents would casually step over unexploded IRA mortar bombs, lying in the street, on their way to work ... a great example to us all of course ;)

Yup ...

More on this ....

Fun factoid: the Irish are amongst the most racist people in Europe, and you could easily throw in the North with those figures...

The simple explanation* is that they learned from the best.

* Of course, there is no such thing as a "simple explanation".

Both sides seem to be tired of feckin' foreigners, just coincidingly different ones this time around :)
