Interesting thing about this is that Locheed-Martin has bought the North American rights to manufacture the Supacat series. I saw their 4x4 HMT transporter down at Modern Day Marine in Quantico last week. No doubt they'll be involved with BAE in some form of collaboration to try and market the SP version of the M-777.

Actually MG34 it isn't a Dana Clone.
As was mentioned on this thread ( http://forums.army.ca/forums/threads/34606.0.html ) it is actually the towed M777 and a Tilt Bed truck so that the gun can either be towed, for rapid in and outs, or carried on the back "porteed" for long road moves. Being able to stack the gun on top of the truck makes the whole thing more compact for air and sea freight, saves those cute little towing wheels, and increases the speed of road moves above the 80 to 90 km/h mark.

Just solves the problem of finding a prime mover for the gun. The way it all fits together, will take a professional tetris champ of a load master to fit it into a herc. But it will fit. I just wonder how the driver gets out once he loads it. Is there a special hardship allowance for being trapped in a cab on a trans oceanic flight? "Here a ration pack and a thunderbox, bon voyage"

Also came across this image of the portee system. It shows the concept much more clearly - it also shows why they retained the ability to hook up to a towing eye - I wouldn't want to be the agitated driver explaining himself to his No.1
