In general I just seem to have an issue with civilian supply techs at the QM. I had a physio therapist tell me I was sized improperly for my steel toes and told me to go back to get the proper size. The clerk gave me attitude right off the bat. I was not rude in any way. I simply went to the desk and said I needed to be resized and to get the proper boots. (When I went in to get my steel toes in the first place they didn't really measure my feet, they just looked at my file and handed me the same size as my bug boots. When I tried them on and told them it didn't feel quite right they told me it was natural and their was nothing wrong with them.) I simply said "I need to have these exchanged please, the physio therapist said these were the wrong size." She snapped at me and said "Well I'm sorry, but we don't go by what any physio therapist says, that's your size."
I did eventually get my size and fitted properly. But man was she rude the entire time.
The size they gave me in the first place for my combats and Gortex were the wrong size, they gave those to me because they said it was the smallest size available, which was a lie. All the sizes below what they gave me where just shoved in an inconvenient spot. I discovered this when a staff member brought me back and had another tech get me smaller boots, which were still too big. They refused to order in smaller boots because I was still in basic at the time.
I pretty much gave up with dealing with boots at the QM, so I just went to a surplus store and got the proper size for my parades. I took the time I needed, and came out with a pair of already broken in old style parades. Which I was told by many staff members that they are ten times better for people with smaller feet than the new style ones. The new style has a thicker soul so the toes don't roll or bend when you walk, which causes joint pain in your knees and hips when you march around for long periods of time in them.
The weather now is a bit chilly and it's getting colder. The school doesn't have working heat and working with our coats on is getting to be a bit too cumbersome.
So I went to clothing stores to pick up my air force long johns (blue turtle neck) and the lady at the desk told me I was not entitled to it because I was not qualified flight crew. Meanwhile, two of my friends who are the same trade as me (AVS), graduated basic with me and are on my course had no problem with them going into the back to grab their size for them. They went in at the same time I did. They just got different clerks. Another student on my course also has them, and hes an ATIS tech. I'm not allowed to wear the white long johns because the undershirt sticks out at the top, and I'm not allowed to wear the green ones because they build up a static charge. I was told by my instructor to go in with my AVS friends who had no problem with them to show that if they are entitled to them, then I am as well.
I have never had any problem with military supply techs, it only seems like the civilian supply techs that don't really want to help me.
My friend who used to be a supply tech told me that the reason these supply techs don't like helping me is because I am a funny size, and helping me requires them to go digging around. Is this true? Have you any of you with funny sizes had any issues? Is there any PDF online for my clothing scale of issue I can bring with me when I go to the QM from now on to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen again? Or am I doomed to have this problem with the rest of my career?
