In general I just seem to have an issue with civilian supply techs at the QM. I had a physio therapist tell me I was sized improperly for my steel toes and told me to go back to get the proper size. The clerk gave me attitude right off the bat. I was not rude in any way. I simply went to the desk and said I needed to be resized and to get the proper boots. (When I went in to get my steel toes in the first place they didn't really measure my feet, they just looked at my file and handed me the same size as my bug boots. When I tried them on and told them it didn't feel quite right they told me it was natural and their was nothing wrong with them.) I simply said "I need to have these exchanged please, the physio therapist said these were the wrong size." She snapped at me and said "Well I'm sorry, but we don't go by what any physio therapist says, that's your size." o_O I did eventually get my size and fitted properly. But man was she rude the entire time.

The size they gave me in the first place for my combats and Gortex were the wrong size, they gave those to me because they said it was the smallest size available, which was a lie. All the sizes below what they gave me where just shoved in an inconvenient spot. I discovered this when a staff member brought me back and had another tech get me smaller boots, which were still too big. They refused to order in smaller boots because I was still in basic at the time.

I pretty much gave up with dealing with boots at the QM, so I just went to a surplus store and got the proper size for my parades. I took the time I needed, and came out with a pair of already broken in old style parades. Which I was told by many staff members that they are ten times better for people with smaller feet than the new style ones. The new style has a thicker soul so the toes don't roll or bend when you walk, which causes joint pain in your knees and hips when you march around for long periods of time in them.

The weather now is a bit chilly and it's getting colder. The school doesn't have working heat and working with our coats on is getting to be a bit too cumbersome.
So I went to clothing stores to pick up my air force long johns (blue turtle neck) and the lady at the desk told me I was not entitled to it because I was not qualified flight crew. Meanwhile, two of my friends who are the same trade as me (AVS), graduated basic with me and are on my course had no problem with them going into the back to grab their size for them. They went in at the same time I did. They just got different clerks. Another student on my course also has them, and hes an ATIS tech. I'm not allowed to wear the white long johns because the undershirt sticks out at the top, and I'm not allowed to wear the green ones because they build up a static charge. I was told by my instructor to go in with my AVS friends who had no problem with them to show that if they are entitled to them, then I am as well.

I have never had any problem with military supply techs, it only seems like the civilian supply techs that don't really want to help me.

My friend who used to be a supply tech told me that the reason these supply techs don't like helping me is because I am a funny size, and helping me requires them to go digging around. Is this true? Have you any of you with funny sizes had any issues? Is there any PDF online for my clothing scale of issue I can bring with me when I go to the QM from now on to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen again? Or am I doomed to have this problem with the rest of my career?

First question: Since when has your "friend who used to be a Supply Tech" not been a Supply Tech?

Because, for the past ten years ... if you're between 4'7" to 7'0" and from a size 2 boot (female size two ... that's like a minus in guy's sizes!!) to a 16 boot ... we have stocked items in those sizes - unlike in the old days.

Second Point:

WRITE up what you've stated above - about the civ clerk - and the commentary given to you by her etc etc ... and hand it in to your supervisor and request "action" on it. I'll even send you the name of the Clothing Supr here in Borden to whom your boss can email it off to if required. If that doesn't work, I'll send you the name of the Pl WO (who came here from Gagetown this past summer).

Make sure that you stick to the "facts" of what was said.

Next time you are at clothing and experience any attitude such as that outlined above - ask for the supervisor. Don't take "no" for an answer. I'm not up on the AF scale of issue for their long underwear, but if the scale says that you must be trades qualified to get it ... then your buddies lucked in. An error issuing it to them will NOT create an entitlement for you to get issued it. ... BUT - try the same clerks they had. Good luck.

Remember too, Sup techs don't decide the scales - your own trades and enviornmental chiefs of staff do ... we just get to be the bad guys enforcing them on the other side of the counter.  :-\

Odd - I've never had anything other than first-rate service in Borden, and I've been there for thirteen years.

Maybe it's the clothes that I wear when I visit.

Nah, we give pilots the hardest time out of everyone.  >:D

he didn't say "Borden." ...

That was me ... Making an assumption. Air Force. School. CFSATE ... just popped into my head, but I could be wrong. That's happened before.  ;)

If that's policy, then some members of your trade are failing miserably.

Plenty of subtle clues, and I had made that assumption before I saw your post.

Profile says "CFSATE" for unit, but "Ottawa" for location.

Perhaps the OP will confirm, and then whichever of us was wrong can buy whichever of us was right a beer.

Okay.

Vern and I should buy each other beer, then, as we were both only partially right.

And there's no sense us marching on Borden base supply and setting them straight afterwards now.

Regardless, you are still entitled to be treated like a human being, and to the correct sizes of anything. It's not easy being a Private and getting that sometimes though (been there). Follow Vern's advice.

Now I'm curious why a CFSATE member would be in Kingston...

Yup, POET course.

Edit to add:

My Supply tech friend is a re muster, he was a supply tech about 4 months ago in Gagetown. Most of the boot problems have been in Borden. I don't remember the name of the lady in Borden who gave me problems, all I remember is what she looked like and what she was wearing. I have to get my winter steel toes exchanged to match the same as my regular ones, so when I return to Borden I will have to hit up the QM. If I have a problem again, I'll let you know first thing.

The lady in Kingston who flat out denied me was wearing a Maple Leafs jersey, so I guess I shouldn't have expected much out of her in the first place...

When I was OJTing there early last year I tried my hardest to give you guys a hard time, but yes, I failed. Must be a me wanting to be a pilot thing, or the fact that I treated all the customers with respect. Oh well.

And for the OP, some techs don't like going out of their way for some reason, don't think that we are all like that. Some of us were in fact issued common sense at one point.

Well, I just left Gagetown 3 months ago ... and we only had one who remustered out this summer ... he went MP; is that him?

And yes, the Leafs suck. Go Boston Go!!

Ahhh, that'd be Chris C. I saw him wandering up the road today ... was too busy to stop him and chat though. He remustered out of 2RCR vice out of Sup Coy (or clothing stores). He was one of those rare guys that actually got a rare desk job in the LPO/Customer Services section of the Coy. Sent me a msg on crackbook that he had remustered to POET in the fall ~ I completely forgot about that.

Tell him that I said hello and to email me ... I'd even take him out for a beer.

Terribly unfortunate tovasshi, I've had problem zero getting boots in my career. I've even been allowed to strut around stores in Lineman boots to check fit. I also have a chit for LPO, but often hate standing in different boots than the rest 'o the boys. Due to the narrow toes in this series of line boot, I have to go downtown. The best place for boots IMHO is Esquimalt, can't beat Viberg for a good construction boot and my 2 pr are still going strong after 12 years 8) Truly a case of "You get what you pay for"
