Well, I just went out to lunch at Dunn's Famous Deli at Bank and Queen Streets in Ottawa.  Of course it's a weekday so I'm in uniform.  No big deal, my friend and I  do this about once a month, but today I was "flying solo" since she's in Toronto.  So I finish my meal and the waitress comes up to tell me that there won't be a bill today.  She says "someone from Toronto paid for your lunch.".

OK.... I'm floored.  What to say?  Who to thank?  The owner, Ina Devine, tells me the person has already left.

That made my day.  And if you are from Toronto and reading this thread, I say "thank you".

Then you must be having a REAL bad day with TO's city council keeping the yellow ribbons flying. Nice of Winnipeg step up to the plate if the ribbons needed a new home. ;D

That is what, I think, made this surprise more pleasant.  Given the uproar in The Big Smoke about showing support for the troops, this was an extraordinarily touching gesture.

People think that the vocal minority that we always here about protesting this and that is the way that ALL Canadians feel...I no longer believe that to be the case...I just think that the vast majority couldn't be bothered to get into it with the vocal tree hugging clowns in polatics and on the streets of T.O.

Canada isn't so left wing...You just have to listen to the right people.
