I did a few searches with different key words but came out empty handed, so I hope this isn't a repeat... I also wasn't sure which was the best forum for the subject, so admins feel free to move it.

I'm hoping people can give me some feedback on their experiences. This is mainly directed to Reservists who have gone on tour while still in school (taking a year or two off from University to go on tour, for example), but anyone is welcome to give me opinions and insight. My original plan was to fully finish my degree, get some good experience in the forces, then go on tour. However, long story short, I'm now considering taking time off (which would probably end up being two years...) to go on tour. If you did take a break from school, did you easily manage to go back to school? Did it seem like  a burden? Did you drop out? Or was it actually easier, made you appreciate studies more? Any type of experience or opinion would be appreciated here. I'm not sure how I would personally react upon returning, but to be on the safe side, I figured finishing them beforehand is a good idea.

I like what one Mcpl once told me: "There won't be peace on earth when you finish school" and I find they are pretty wise words, but opportunities to go on tour are obviously really ripe at the moment and the situation might change a few years down the road. Plus, I figure it's better to go younger than when older (to an extent, obviously. The age factor is subjective). I also wanted to wait a bit to try to gain more experience in the forces, do a few more courses, try to absorb as much knowledge as I can (but then again, pre-training lasts quite a while now). Obviously this is a big decision, I'm not the first to have come across it and I'll be giving it a lot of thought. Also keep in mind that this is not so "urgent", meaning I don't need to make a decision anytime soon.  I'm also leaving out a lot of details, because I mainly want input on the "taking a break" from studies factor. But I still wanted to get some input on it. What people consider a wiser choice, so to speak.

Thanks in advance.

we had a reservist with us in Bosnia, he was taking piloting from a college in Calgary, he took a break, he is going with us on another tour to Afghanistan, oh yeah, he didn't finish his course. I think he seen the money in his hands now and liked it so he never went back! I would finish school and then go.
