Well, not really, but pursuant to our Stryker conversation - anyone read armytimes.com and see the slideshow of the US M1A1 that was knocked out by a "mystery projectile" in Iraq? This thing penetrated the M1‘s armour, leaving a hole you couldn‘t even put a finger through, and went through a seat, an NBC hose, part of a flak jacket, a circuit box, etc., before coming to rest and setting off the halon system.

There is a slideshow of all the damage the projectile did.

Any guesses as to what it was from our armour experts here?

Ah!! Do we now have a Infantier Sabot Round?
Notice the limited spalling on the inside.

As to attack it was broad side and at a weak point as all tank‘s have but given that where did they get this new round?

Me think‘s a new infantry anti tank weapon using sabot technology.

Thank‘s Mike!
I‘ll start searching !!!

Thank you sir. I appriciate you helping me work on my wit, as slow comming as it is. And like i‘ve said, Please, call me FAT or A FAT, Free Air Technician is SO last month. Actually it was intended to be a joke when i first joined but it‘s cute that people (well one anyways) seem to take it seriously or it some how bugs me :)
MAYBE as an "acquisition" Officer you can ad-rep a better sence of humor ;)
JUST kidding sir, Maybe if im lucky i can AQUIRE a new friend heh
Wow that can get tiresome pretty quick eh? Maybe someone should have acquisitioned that tank some better armor.

In all seriousness it is unfortuinate that something like that can take out the best tank in the world. Small kenetic rounds seem to be the best way to beat armor though. Has anyone seen the video of an old m113 apc with pigs in side (no joke) and when they fired a sabot round through it it went in one side, came out the other and sucked the pigs through the tiny little hole. Thats some sobering stuff.

YOU KNOW SUGAR IN THE FUEL TANKS CAN CRIPPLE IT ALSO

what about a 50.cal well placed and lucky sniper shot?. lets say like a barrett light.50, could it pierce the armour under the battle tanks skirt and have enough velocity to bounce around and break some controls?

if the bullet lodged itself in the hull 2 inches that gunner was exseptionaly lucky, from the slide show it apears to have grazzed his flak jacket, a few more milimeters and he would be dead or on kidney dialisis the rest of his life, praise god the bullet hit the n.b.c hose to slow it down a bit, it probably saved his life. he must have had somone looking out for him that patrol.

Hey ghost...do you have a reference for that pig story? I would love to read that.

I wonder if the C1 Leopard would be been taking out by this uber pencil
