Evening all,

A friend of mine is enrolling (application already done and in) but he has never before completed a tax return, despite having held jobs for the past four (4) years.

Will this present a problem with him getting accepted, as when people have debt issues?

Thanks.

I am not sure...

However he or she should file them ASAP regardless. Voluntary Disclosure Program will protect him from any penalties etc. That way he will not get into trouble from tax man....

Tax fraud is kind of a big deal, yeah. He needs to get his act together.

I wouldn't call it tax fraud. There was no malicious intent here, just a simple misunderstanding and/or ignorance of the system.

"Honest, your Honour, I didn't know I had to pay Taxes"

I suppose some judges these days would accept that.
hahah yea it sounds crazy, but last semester we did a case study on an individual that had not paid taxes in 7 years. he used (s)15 of the Charter of Rights and argued that taxes impeded his rights of equality because he thought he should be paying the same amount as his disabled neighbour which is $0! And wouldn't you know the judge dismissed the charges and put him on a repayment plan. So the whole I didn't know defence just might work these days!! lol
