The flawed Ikea

I just thought that I would take a second and rage a little bit.  Nothing related to the Army, but to the not-so-wonderful people at IKEA DIRECT.

Just for the record, this is not the IKEA stores, but rather the shop at home service offered via the 1-800 and internet.

IKEA DIRECT is now the proud award winner of the "Worst Company I Have Ever Purchased From" award.  Be advised if you order from them you will wait longer than your order for the new rucksack from the supply system.

I ordered a couch and chair from them in June and still have not got it.  No joke.  When I called on 6 June 2004 they mentioned that they did not have it in stock.  Fair enough, they called back 31 July and mentioned they had it in finally... billed my VISA for the $2000,00 bucks and promised that I would see it in 7-10 days.... well that came and went.  When I called, it was a shipping error... Another 10-12 days required.  Called and they said my account was closed because they shipped and I go it.  Nope... they might have shipped it, but I never got it.  "We will call you back in 3 hours"  Next day, no call wait the 15 minute in the queue on the phone service.... oh we lost it in shipping.  Oh, but it is now out of stock... you will need to wait till 13 Sep 04 to get it.  Ok... called today and... whamo... "Oh... we really screwed up.  Someone lost your order"  Ahhhh....  "but we will have it to you in 10-14 days".

So I have been without cash and couch / chair for about 45 days...  Been ignored, lied to, and  generaly treated poorly... wow, you would think I was at work.

Bloody hell... I could have made a couch quicker.

Be warned of the evils of IKEA DIRECT.  Nice stuff to look at in the catalog, but they will never ship it to you if you want to buy it.

There we go... vented and feeling better.

Now back to the regular program...

Cheers,

MC

Sounds a little like my dealings with AVIS car rentals in Frankfurt, but that is another story.

I assume you have everything documented.  Copies of your Visa bill (did you call Visa and cancell that payment?).  Copy everything and create a file.  Email your story to their Head Office in Sweden?  Fax a copy of your docs and records to Head of Company in Sweden.  Next time, if you haven't already, get names and write them down (Sometimes the mire fact that you are asking for a person to spell their name for your records gets better results.).  Go right to the Top.

I feel for you,
My buddy move out for the first time this year and had what seemed like a reasonable idea, to stock his apartment with IKEA furniture and everything else from the dollar store (plates, cups, etc)  He's facing the exact same problems ("We seem to have misplaced your order")
It begs the question, if these assholes lost the order, then where the fuck did it go? Does some lucky bugger now own a living room set because he ordered from Ikea 5 years ago?

My buddy, as I was saying, had to be escorted from the university campus today by security because he was throwing the biggest conniption over the phone to the Ikea people...we got pictures..it's actually really funny for us..but we still feel bad for him.

I had 2 similar problems with Ikea over the past 3 years....with the actual store. Never again....if I can't walk out with the purchase in my hand then I don't buy it.
Ikea is an extreme example of the merchant inconvenienceing the customer to increase his profit margin,on the customers back. Perhaps the most common occurance of this is the grocery store(not the 7-11 type) but the larger ones. You know, were you get to the row of 10 check-out counters, only 2 are open and there are 20 people standing in line with full carts, waiting like sheep to give the store their money....all because store-management is too cheap to pay for more cashiers to speed things up for the customers' convienence. And we the customers buy into it like the sheep we are!!!!  I for one have taken the path of " Mr. Store Owner, if you want my money, then you better make it fast and easy for me to give it to you...DON"T MAKE ME WAIT IN LINE TO DO SO!!!!!!!"
I can't count the number of times I've left a full shopping cart sitting by the check-out counter and just walked out of the stoe because of that. ;D

My girlfriend had problems with Ikea. Now we are both Jysk converts.

Who knew that smaller can be better?

Out of respect for you, I will curb my fervent desire to respond to your post with the words "Besides your girlfriend, you mean?"  ;D

I ordered a couch and chair from them in June and still have not got it.

I wondered where the people at Montgomery Ward went to after they went out of business. ;D

Sorry MedCorps I went through something similar in the States years ago.  A dining room suite, couch, chair and coffee tables, 3-4 months late.  Not all bad though. They ended up knocking an additional 20% off the sale price.

Keep beating on them!!!!
