Afghanistan enters the chat...

Afghanistan evacuation was 'too slow and too late,' ex-military officials tell Congress

Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said the retreat under fire had shredded America's credibility and reputation.

“That damage will last for generations," McCaul said.

Generally speaking I expect civil disobedience to be a home grown matter. Not something associated with foreign provocateurs and money.

I can't help but wonder which ISI madrassah he graduated from.

FYI, the Sinti appear to be a sub-group of the Roma.

I find myself tending to Minister Roccella's position. By tying anti-semitism to fascism, and the connection is real and indisputable, it relieves the scrutiny of the anti-semitism of Russian-led communism and the Comintern.

Anti-semitism crosses party, national and cultural lines. It is not a useful indicator of any other political philosophy. British Liberals had their "Zionists" and their "Arabists".

I hope they also shared that Mussolini's fascist Italy was a great example for Hitler to follow ;)

Yeah, that would have been another narrative that would have gone over well at the Union of Italian Jewish Communities conference the Minister was speaking at when she made the remarks, for sure :)

The British remain convinced that Spain and Italy could revert to fascist dictatorships in a heartbeat.

There’s a reason they renewed their hundreds year old treaty with Portugal ;)

Spain and Italy could fracture into a half dozen countries in the future if they are not careful.

In the Southern European Dictatorship Sweepstakes, Portugal has it's own history of keeping the trains running on time, so to speak, as well. They may be a touch more culturally homogenous than Spain or Italy (although a lot of talk between mainlanders and Azoreans has the same sound & feel as Newfoundlanders vs. Quebeckers vs. Westerners talking about their grievances).

Can't speak to Spain, but anytime I'm in Italy (usually central), I'm not feeling the vibe of a country being torn apart into the industrial, have-nation of the North - Google "Lega Nord Padania" for some interesting campaign posters like this one (rough translation: "Wake up, people of Padania - with the Northern League against the uber-thief Rome") ....

... versus the have-not-nation of the South. Political tension & pendulum back-and-forth? Yup. But I'd give it the same odds as Canada splitting up into 2-3 countries. Everyone's mileage will vary on that assessesment/read, of course, but while the tug of war is there, it doesn't feel close to one side pulling the other over any lines.
