I'm puzzled by the Olympic Shooter "loophole." What is it? I haven't seen hordes of "Olympic shooters" buying anything really.

An Olympic shooter can keep and use the pistol of their discipline.
But you can’t have a pistol to practice becoming an olympic shooter.

The "Olympic Loophole" was intended to show that the Liberals has "listened" to the sport shooting community and were being benevolent and considerate of legal handgun sport shooters. The unstated intent was to starve international shooting sports of new talent as the Liberals saw no need for Canada to compete in such barbaric activities.
IPSC Canada had tried to get their sport included in the "loophole". One range in BC announced that IPSC could become "the gateway to legal handgun ownership in Canada". Shortly thereafter the anti-gun docs, Poly and Coalition for Gun Control did a great job of painting IPSC shooters as mass killers in practice before SECU and the committee vote to include IPSC in the "loophole" was defeated by one vote, the Liberal chair.
To my knowledge, so far, there have been no exemptions granted under 97.1(b) as the intent was that the criteria would be so restrictive as to be impossible to meet. And, it's worked.

We certainly don't have it correct IMO, but I wouldn't go so far as agreeing that we should have the right to use our firearms to defend our property. PAL holders shouldn't be heading out into the night in defense of "stuff", precipitating conflict situations that they're not trained to handle.
That being said- there should 100% be a clear path and lowered threshold for the use of firearms in defense of self or family in the home, without the risk of judicial activists sticking it to you to make a point.

People shouldn't feel comfortable coming onto your property to take your "stuff". If the risk of conflict makes people think twice about theft, we all win.
Having to go through insurance to replace your "stuff" can/will lead to higher premiums for yourself and others. I don't know about you, but I don't need another reason for life to get even more expensive...

They shouldn't. But that doesn't mean the answer is angry Jim who has never heard the term of "use of force training" poking around in the dark while hopped up on adrenaline. Most PAL holder's aren't LEO's or CAF members. Hell the story Halifax brought in was literally a man firing into the sky in a built up area.
