I think we may be seeing mass non-compliance. Which heartens me.

Mass non-compliance might also be used as an excuse to hammer firearms even harder, since so many "lawful" owners refused to follow the law...

Might not impact middle aged and older people in rural areas, but it could kill firearms for future generations of the government goes hard on ammunition sales, and further restrictions on action types.

Especially when you consider there's something like 95,000 registered AR15s alone.

Maybe those numbers don't include AR15s or other formerly restricted rifles?

Having said that, anyone who is a serious shooter should be making their own ammo.

It was reported as about 47K..... I'm thinking it's going to hit just over 50K and that'll be it.

Interesting thing - with the case in front of the SCC, there will be a strong consideration for an extension to the Amnesty until the ruling is passed.

I know they can't overtly pressure the SCC for a decision, but like the Emergency Act appeal, the government is going to be pushing for a speedy resolution. They need those things passed for whatever future plans they have.

We have to remember, many people went and signed up just to see what firearms the government knew about. In order to look at your file, you need to agree to turn the firearms in. Many won't. Some will. The government already knows how many AR-15 type rifles are out there, they can extrapolate their high numbers from that, or the amount of people that wanted to look at their file. I don't for a single second, doubt that this government is trying to keep this alive by inflating the numbers. Prohibited firearms in the wild does not translate to guns turned in. They have also been using numbers from seizures from retail businesses. One of the first things the CCFR needs to do is challenge all numbers before the real nitty gritty starts.

That, and the tendency for soft metal (like lead) to lose it's shape after muzzle velocity/impact; or FMJs to splinter.

Only thing that would be good for is tracing back rounds bought together if a weapon is found in the commission of a crime. Then again, unspent rounds are pretty weak sauce evidence.

Criminals don't care about numbers. They'll either remove them or get their ammo somewhere else. The gun is likely already stolen, a few serialised rounds won't stop their use.

She's angry, but I think this whole stunt is just the government getting ahead of a class action for compensation.

They have sent multiple emails, and now made a press statement directly appealing to people to pass along the information so people can be compensated. If someone tries in the future to claim they had property taken without compensation, the government can point back to all the things they did to try to get people to sign-up for compensation.

Weird that a MP and Secretary of State for nature is clearly the spokes person and driving power behind the gun confiscation.

Poor Gary must feel like a cuckold, watching her run the show like that.

50,000 firearms is hilarious too. If you're considering $1500 a firearmmon average then the government should be paying out everyone that signed up, too.

I don't think they like the idea of turning 10s of thousands or more of lawful tax paying Canadian into criminals over night which is what seems it approaching.

Considering they already declared they aren’t paying for a bunch of property declared prohibited, that isn’t going to fly. They have been acting in bad faith since this started I think that will be very clear to the courts.

Have had a couple of interesting discussions today....some related to this....in short, they're not getting SFA from me except the scraps of receivers that'll be embedded in a poured tri-wall of concrete with only the serial numbers visible.

The less compliance, the more certain I am of an extension of the amnesty.

I will do nothing until the very last day.
