The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

I think Canadian gun owners should see if 47 will give them refugee status as discriminatory policies of the Canadian government are causing y’all undo hardships and suffering, both financially and mentally.
Nice idea, but those are not grounds for refugee claims under any current treaties, but maybe we could build it into the new USMCA/CUSMA.

I'm pretty confident that if the 51st state idea were to ever come to pass that our current government would negotiate away 2A rights for former Canadians in exchange for something else.

Refugees

Under United States law, a refugee is someone who:

  • Is located outside of the United States
  • Is of special humanitarian concern to the United States
  • Demonstrates that they were persecuted or fear persecution due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group
  • Is not firmly resettled in another country
  • Is admissible to the United States

Looks to me like Canadian Gun Owners fit that — especially under the current administration.

Bold of you to think that Canada would get any say in Constitutional matters…
Besides we will never add another State, Puerto Rico and Washington DC won’t get State status as it would greatly upset the political balance.

Given your current administrations interpretation of admissibility, this could be a problem for many.

So, why does POTUS 47 keep bringing it up?

Now, back to the topic at hand.

A correction to my earlier post. The current amnesty orders only applies to those firearms banned in May 2020 and December 2024. They do not extend to the ban in March 2025. Those amnesty orders expire on October 30, 2025. There is no amnesty order covering the firearms banned in March 2025 so far, or any of the subsequent individual firearm bans (e.g. Sterling Arms R9, Mk1 banned in July 2025). If Minister Anandasangaree extends the amnesty, will it include all banned firearms?

The Ontario Provincial Police have decided to not participate in the compensated confiscation (TM) scheme. The Public Safety Minister said a number of police services have already signed on but refused to say which ones. He's still confident everything banned will be rounded up by the end of 2026. He also acknowledged that the original amnesty covering the May 2020 ban will need to be extended, again, as it expires in about six weeks, but there are no details on how/if that will be done and if it will also cover the firearms captured in subsequent bans.

Edit to include the link to the news article.

In spirit I'm happy to see the OPP fucking off this shitty program.

In practice it helps the Liberals immensely. Private gun owners will never see a dollar for their firearms. The Liberal party will extend the gun buyback indefinitely until they're out of office.

The only thing that might change that is if Canadian gun owners started randomly dumping firearms and ammunition in the big cities.

That's an acceptable short term outcome for me. So long as the next Gov reverses all this malarky.
