Well, it appears that Minister Anandasangaree has really stepped in it this time.
In a recorded conversation with a constituent who is also a gun owner, the Minister was heard to say that:
The individual buyback launches Tuesday (tomorrow, 2025.09.23) with pilot project in Cape Breton;
Funds to support it are "capped" at $742M, after it's exhausted you get nothing (probably because PBO predicted a cost of at least $750M);
Admits if he had to start over they'd scrap it but it was a campaign promise;
Blames pressure from Quebec, the vital ground of Polysesouvient and home of anti-gun Liberal MP Nathalie Provost.;
Implies it won't be enforced by police who want nothing to do with it;
Admits gun owners will not get fair compensation;
Offers to pay this constituent the difference between fair market value and what they may receive, if anything, from the program;
Offers to pay bail for the constituent if he practises non compliance and gets arrested.
Watch for the announcement tomorrow, unless he gets fired overnight. In which case watch for the announcement of the appointment of a new Public Safety Minister.
And, if you're a Cape Bretoner, I hope you kept your receipts so you can get your cash fast.
