The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

Might cause Provost to cross the floor to the BQ, which would hurt him, though. I'm sure she only ran in the hope of getting the PS portfolio to further her personal agenda.

I think what PMMC could gain in votes over all would more than surpass the loss of an MP to the BQ.

The Liberals have already shown they lack conviction or principals, why not here too ? This portfolio has been a disaster for them and by loosing this sea anchor they stand to gain momentum, IMHO.

This could be such an easy win for Carney, probably cut PP off at the knees too.
Just as certain SoCon elements are the albatross around the neck of a pragmatic CPC, it would seem there are similar SoLib elements around the necks of an LPC that's at least showing signs of trying to be pragmatic.

Such is life in FPTP driven big tent politics.

This iteration of the LPC has only one thing in mind: how to win the next election. They’ll crush anyone who crosses their path.

I cant see walking this back hurting their fortunes.

In fact I think it would be a bewildering counter to PP.

I'm disappointed to see I was right about Carney. It's a small consolation to have the public minister admit the whole thing is a scam and Carney doesn't have a backbone.

I wonder if Carney will keep Anandasangaree. Guy clearly (thankfully?) can't keep secrets, but to punt him would make it look like Carney made a bad pick. On the other hand punting him gives Quebec sweetheart Natalie the spot she was destined for.

I was finally in the woods all day yesterday setting up blinds and stands so I missed what he actually said. But I am sad to see that something like this can be allowed to carry on when the even the minister in charge of it calls it a scam.

I see it as an attack on a segment of Canadians who mostly don't vote LPC. And being the clearer head and walking this back would be such a big win for PMMC, IMHO.

Yeah. The safety minister already said it won't be enforced. They're going to offer gun owners a few bucks for any guns they want to turn in and once the $750m pot issued up thats it. The government is letting the rest of those evil assault rifles stay in Canadians hands and moving on.

Waiting to see whether the consequences are any more severe than for others who spoke out of turn. Might reveal something about who has custody of Carney's spine and balls.

[Add: "campaign promise" - too bad governments never have the flexibility to ignore those.]

Meanwhile, from some other players on the gun control file ....
PolySeSouvient info-machine statement also attached.

New models of the SKS? Cool. Poly talking out their ass again.

Now it'll be personal between First Nations or Poly. Who would Carney rather appease?

Imagine a FN owned oil pipeline through Quebec, guarded by FN members carrying SKS's.......
Mind you, if any provincial police force would see bets in favour of … flexible ROE against FN, many would bet on the SQ. It sure would be spicy, politically as well as tactically.

Respectfully, I disagree.

I think the number of CPC voters he would gain from scrapping this (and/or changing laws/policies to be more pro-gun) would pale in comparison to the number of LPC voters he would lose to the Bloq and/or NDP.

How many of you CPC voters would vote liberal if the only thing he did differently from what he is doing is make gun ownership easier?

The current and historical Liberal stance on gun control guarantees that the Liberal Party of Canada will never garner a vote from myself. I could like every single other aspect of the LPC platform but the LPC gun control policy is a poison pill I am unwilling to swallow.

If the LPC adopted the gun control policies of the Harper government, I would be willing to look at Carney.

I believe this is not an uncommon point of view amongst firearms owners and specifically in Western Canada. The LPC is prioritizing a Quebec special interest group over Canada on this file, that is very evident.

Interestingly the Bloq received 1.2 million votes in 2025. There are 2.3 million gun owners in Canada.
