Okay! So I went with my better half to see The Namesake the other day, and I was honestly blown away by the movie. The movie was based on a book with the same name, and it was written by Jhumpa Lahiri, an Indian (by this I mean real INDIANS and NOT Native Americans) author who writes predominantly about cultural struggles with immigrant families in their new American homes.

The movie was an all around success in my point of view. Those who think this movie is about Kal Penn, you will be disappointed. This movie is about the entire family, from it's beginnings with the parents, Ashoke and Ashima to their son Gogol (Kal Penn), and not about Kal Penn's character as some would like to expect and believe when they enter the movie theatre. I believe that this movie displays the struggles that many immigrant families have when they first come to North America. With the differences between traditions, life styles and just over all culture, The Namesake brought it all to the table, and then some. Coupled with beautiful and properly timed musical soundtrack consisting of traditional Indian instruments, and modern hip-hop and rap, I would encourage anyone who was an immigrant and can relate to the struggles, and also all who want to watch a heart warming movie, to go and watch The Namesake.

I give The Namesake
