This book "The NCO: Backbone of the Army" is a compilation of discussion topics from the NCO of the Future Symposium hosted at Queen‘s University in JUn 1999. By a review of its content is is not intended to be taken as directive or guidance, but only a a start point for ongoing discussion and debate on the topic: "This booklet is intended to be a guide for uniut leaders who wisdh to engage others in a conversation about this important issue."
The booklets topics are aligned with those covered by the original symposium:
Topic I - Traditional and Nontraditional Duties?
Topic II - The New "Technical" Non-Commissioned Officer in the Future Army?
Topic III - Developing Non-Commissioned Officers, Are We Doing It Well?
Topic IV - Who Watches Over the Soldier‘s "Quality of Life"?
Topic V - Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers, A New Relationship?
The booklet closes with a call for comments by the staff of the Directorate of Army Training in Kingston.
