Following Master Blaster thread reminded me of an incident that happened in India during WW II. An of order unit compised of officers from WW I offered their services to the government and were turned down because of their age. Several years later they were approached to take on a secret mission to destroy three German merchant ships anchored in Goa. The operation was a success and the story of the sinkings was carried in the newspapers along with pictures. The story of who was resposible did not come out until well after the end of the war and was the subject of a book and a movie starring Gregory Peck, Trevor Howard, Roger Moore and David Niven called The Sea Wolves (The Last Charge of the Calcutta Light Horse).
