(the smarmy Liberal party poll-meister weasels whisper in the PM‘s ear ... Canada sends troops abroad so our ruling party won‘t be totally embarassed vis-a-vis putting our money where our mouth is, to try and retain some credibility with our allies ... and the Army takes it up the hoop because the same little PENCIL D!CK political advisors say the poll don‘t support additional military funding ... only in Canada, eh? Pity.)

Afghanistan blew army budget

By STEPHANIE RUBEC, SUN OTTAWA BUREAU (Sun)

OTTAWA -- The Canadian army ground troops blew their budget during the war in Afghanistan, says a Defence Department spokesman.

Capt. Mark Gough said the Canadian Forces gave its 850 Edmonton and Manitoba soldiers serving in Afghanistan $1 million in lunches, but depended on the Americans for breakfast and dinner.

"We did snack at their snack bar, but we didn‘t pay for it," Gough said.

Instead of paying for the hard rations, the Canadians offered up a few welcome additions to the U.S. camp set up as the launching pad for the war on terrorism.

"We bring one thing and they bring something else," Gough said. "We also do things for them."

Perks provided by the Canadian Forces were two sewage trucks, brought over on a U.S. military transport plane with other heavy army equipment and vehicles.

The trucks meant the American soldiers could stop burning their five-gallon drums of excrement at the end of the airstrip, which sent a foul smell into the camp.

The federal Liberals gave the Defence Department $210 million in the December 2001 budget to pay the army, navy and air force fighting the war on terrorism in Operation Apollo.

But the army‘s deployment alone - which pulled out in July after a six-month tour of duty - is expected to cost at least $183.4 million.

The Defence Department has estimated that the ongoing navy and air force missions in the fight against terrorism will cost about $126 million this year.

That brings the estimated bill for the Canadian Forces deployments to $309 million, or about $100 million over budget.

And Gough said that amount could easily climb, since bills continue to pour in for fuel, transportation and incidentals.

The Canadian Forces paid the U.S. military $18 million to transport the army‘s heavy equipment to Afghanistan early this year.

The bill isn‘t in yet for the July return trip.

I would have to take exception to your calling our moronic PMO advisors as pencil ****s. There is no proof that these advisors have ****s in the first place. :D I am of the opinion that they have resorted to using a magic 8 ball for their advice to Papa doc Crouton. Or else they have re-created Mackenzie King‘s seances in the Peace Tower. It is a sad day when the CF has to exchange the use of the honey truck in order to feed the troops. But I know a place where they could empty out the contents of the sewage trucks. It is 22 Sussex Dr. And Papa Doc won‘t mind the smell. After all it can‘t be worse than the smell of his corrupt regime. :mg:

I think the occupants of 22 Sussex Dr would mind the smell.

Why not 24 mein her?

Toodley doo, :blotto:
