The Unintended Consequences of Diversity Statements

Especially when you have got a couple of hundred years of history where you have been told you have a special responsibility to look after the peoples of the rest of the world and raise them to your standards and share the benefits of your life.

It sucks pretty hard to be told that the preference is to return to burning widows, maintaining harems and kowtowing to emperors.
Reminds me of a scene from the Jodie Foster version of Anna and the King:

Anna: The ways of England are the ways of the world.

Indian servants look at each other and roll their eyes

Feel free to return to the world of the King of Siam. Leave me out of it.

right cause racists will forget that they're racists once they're no longer reminded that they're racists.
No, but the genuine racists were already a tiny minority of socially outcast people.

Everybody knows the common phrase "When you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail". Well, when you are conditioned to look at every interaction with others through a racial/intersectional lens, every interaction has a much higher chance of being some form of "ism".

Maybe the person isn't being mean to you because they're racist, maybe they're just an asshole, or maybe they're having a bad day. Alternatively, maybe they just don't like you individually... Maybe they just don't come from the same background as you, and don't realize that what they said is offensive to you.

That's where education, and a bit of understanding can go a long way. Unless you want to keep people divided, because there is was great money to be made selling "training" and guilt-porn books.

From that second article:

In December, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal Fire, transitioned to “Winter Preparedness staffing levels statewide.” That essentially means fewer staff members. Why? “This adjustment aligns with a seasonal decrease in fire activity and aims to strategically optimize resources as fire risks lessen during the cooler months.”

In short, winter is supposed to bring rain to California, which dampens vegetation and limits the threat and extent of wildfires. But that’s when weather is behaving as usual—not in dangerous and unpredictable ways due to climate change, as the wildfires raging in Southern California make all too clear.
So yeah, maybe they have fewer people in the departments but it seems like a planned thing due to the season.
