Brake lights are activated by an air pressure switch usually set between 2-5 psi. If there was an air pressure issue than the brake lights would not light up. Again extremely unlikely because when the air pressure falls that low the park brakes automatically engage.

Right.

If the parking brakes did not automatically engage, ( speaking as a CZ operator only, not a mechanic) it could indicate the operator did not apply the service brakes, until on the sidewalk.

I just assumed it was AWD but you might right that the emergency brake was set. Either way, not good. The operator might have done that to get the car off private property quickly.

Who is responsible for any damages in a case like that ?

If it was the E-brake the wheels would not move at all. The hopping is from the driveline loading up with stress then releasing rapidly. Very damaging to the driveshafts and differential and transmission. I will predict multiple future drivetrain failures in that cars future.

Who is responsible for any damages in a case like that ?

I would think the tow company, but making the nexus might be a challenge. Even if they did pony up, I would bet that it wouldn't be 100% since they would argue that whatever caused it be towed in the first place was contributory. Civil/small claim are weird sometimes.

BMW X5 is rear wheel drive. Needs to put it in neutral or put on dollies. Just destroying tyres, tranny, engineer mounts..
