Hi,

I am 27 and will be going to University after a few years break from college. It was recomended to me from a former regular army person to join the militia for extra money. I would also like to join for the experience, extra training, and I need to get into shape.

The question I have is, "how hard is the physical training? And do you think someone with average helath and build can make it, I even have a bit of a tummy, so I may be a bit below average. I am 6‘1 and about 205 pounds.

Also, would any of you guys actualy in the militia or regular forces recomend the militia for someone who does not want a career in the military, but for the reason stated above?

Thank you for your time. :cdn: :salute:

Well, the physical training is pretty tuff and demanding from what I hear. I am not in the army nor have done my BMQ yet, but you need to be able to do 19 push-ups 19 sit-ups run 2.4 in under 11:53 (or something close to that) pass medical exam, pass test, pass strength test.

If you don‘t want a career in the military then the reserves would probably be better for you.

I am also about 6‘1 around 180 pounds I used to weight about 210. Work those abs and eat a proper diet to loose the tummy.

Hopefully someone with some experience will post here and futher assist you. Hope what I know helped you.

So far in the militia we have gone for runs on some thursday nights and have been giving general servings of push ups.. I find that you dont have to be super fit, but a greater level of fitness will benifit you. A few of the privates in my training troop are not in shape and they struggled through most of the push ups and runs.. If you want a more enjoyable experiance with the militia get in shape. Although its only 19 to get in. In one relay race I was made to do over 50 push ups (not complaining at all im just warning you)..

I would recomend the reserves to anyone not interested in a long term committment. Don‘t worry too much about the physical part of it. Pass the entrance test then worry about improving on it.
