This article describes the approach that 1 Cav Division took do dealing with the insurgency in Baghdad. The CG used his DivArty commander as "city planner" a very innovative and effective approach to urban combat.

Glad to contribute. We get alot of criticism from British allies that we don't know what we are doing in Iraq. I like to demonstrate that we do in fact are on the right track. This isnt an isolated example either as most of our units over there have found ways to fight terrorists and help the local people have a better life. Essential in fighting an insurgency.

Tomahawk6:

Despite having commented on this area in the past I always feel a reluctance because of a lack of personal commitment as well as national commitment.  Also, as most folks round here have probably figured out I am something of a "fan" of Brits in general and the Brit forces in particular.

Having said that I want to express my personal gratitude for the efforts of you and your compatriots and just hope, as LCol Nagl on last night's Charlie Rose program suggested, that your politicians and media will allow you to win a winnable fight.  With any luck at all the guys in the CF will be allowed the same success in Afghanistan.

Cheers and thanks again.

Tomahawk6,

This article is an excellent example in what the CF is now calling the Three Block War. I agree with the General's remarks about non-lethal effects. Those stability and humanitarian assistance operations are difficult to plan and execute. 1 Cav is justifiably proud of the great work they did. :salute:
