Hey I just got my call today about going off to BMQ, I had just got merit listed on Aug. 1st and I was told I was going to be sworn in on Sept. 2 and I'm going to Borden on Sept. 7th.

I am reg. force infantry.

My first question is. I had asked to goto the RCR in Pettawawa because of its proximity to my family and friends. When I was given this information I was told I was going to be going to PPCLI. Do I have to goto PPCLI or can I wait until there is a spot open in the RCR? Would I still do my BMQ while waiting for a spot, or would I start my BMQ after a spot is open?

My second question is, am I allowed to bring a laptop with wireless internet to basic to use during weekends and time after training? I understand there might not be alot of time to use it, but I was just wondering.

Third Question is, am I allowed to bring books to read during BMQ?

Thanks alot :D

1.  Talk to the Recruiting Centre again, tell them you are willing to wait for a space for The RCR.  It may delay your training dates.  Keep in mind that being selected for The RCR may still find you in New Brunswick and not Ontario.

2.  Search on BMQ and laptop, this has been discussed. (Main search page.)  Try limiting the age of the search responses to narrow the results to more recent threads, four threads plus this one came up by searching within the past 365 days.

3.  Yes, you will have limited personal storage space, about which searches on BMQ, including the laptop threads, will also turn up discussions.

It's also possible to submit a memo while in BMQ or BIQ to go RCR instead of PPCLI.  You will be shown how to do a proper memo in BMQ.
