Good day everyone,

Thank you for your service.

I’m currently in the process of joining the CAF Reserve. I’ve completed the interview, medical (both parts), FORCE test, and security clearance. About a month ago, I was informed that my file will be forwarded to Ottawa for final processing and review.

A friend of mine who applied to the Regular Force mentioned that their application progressed step-by-step, and they were sworn in shortly after their security clearance was completed. In my case, as a Reserve applicant, it seems that all documents must be bundled together and reviewed before enrollment is approved.

Is this the standard process for Reserve applicants? Does the final review in Ottawa usually take this long? It’s been over a month now, and I haven’t received any updates.

Any insights or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Good Day,

First off, yes recruiting files for the RegF and the PRes are treated differently. Although there are CFRC's across the country, they all fall under CFRG HQ which has a centrally managed list of all RegF applicants. The Reserves are "in charge" of their own recruiting and CFRG HQ has nothing to do with PRes Recruiting. With the medical bran

Without knowing what branch (Navy, Army, Air Force or Medical) you're joining it's hard to give advice as each reserve branch is in charge of it's own recruiting and has it's own policies. Similarly not knowing what region you're in adds complications to your query. For example if you're joining a unit that falls under 33 CBG, that 'could' make sense as the unit may need final approval from their brigade to enroll you.

If you're joining the medical branch then both the units fall under 1 HSG & 4 HSG, who in turn fall under CFHS HQ which is in Ottawa. The "head" J1 cell that processes enrolment messages is in Ottawa and as such it's likely your file 'could' be there waiting for a message to be cut.

If you're Navy, Ottawa doesn't make sense at all as their HQ is in Quebec City; and I'm not sure how the Air Force works for the PRes.

As an side with joining the Reserves during the summer months, most unit staff are tasked away for the summer on secondary taskings, so your file may well be ready to go for a September enrollment, but that staff may not be available to finish your file. Your best bet is to follow up with your Unit / Brigade Recruiter (as appropriate) as they can see your file in CFRIMS, where as none of us here can :-)
