Hello,
I was hoping to join the reserves for the Fall. How long does it normally take to go through the recruiting process? Do I need to start now? am I already too late? or would 6-8 weeks be enough time?
Thanks.

start asap.. The time length of the joining process cant depend on many many things... Give yourself alot of time because somtimes it can take months..

The best you can do is start right away. The thing you need to keep in mind is that before you can perform the basic duties you need to complete basic training.

I don‘t know about the unit you intend to join, but unless they are going to run a weekend basic course during the year, you will have to wait until next summer to do your basic military qualification. I don‘t know if you can be sworn in for this summer, but it is possible.

If you can‘t do either basic (or BOTP - do you want to be an officer?) beforehand, you should be able to still attend weekly training during the year, but you are excluded from weekends or anything that looks cool.

If you need to make more money for school, and can‘t get basically trained until next year, you may have to look at other job options in the meantime.

hope this helps,

Thanks for the help. Although, that‘s not really what I wanted to hear. Any chance anyone knows about how long after the process is under way that a person has to complete the physical test? I‘ve really been putting this off because I know I‘m not as fit as I could be.
thanks

They physical has to be done within a couple months of swear in I believe, and also have you do it for your file to be processed. (Both of these may be the same one depending on how long it takes your file to be processed) It also has to be done again before course if it has been longer than a certain period of time. (6 months I think because I have to do another one before I go home for the holidays so I have it done before my next course) They generally give you a number to call to arrange a physical fitness test(depending where you live and what CF facilities they have access to). Some of mine have been done at CF facilities with outside contractors, or staff from the CF, others have been done at civilian facilities with an approved civilian contractor. It‘s not hard and if you are in decent shape, you should be able to pass it. However do not let that detract from the importance of continued training as course will be more challenging than the entrance test you will take. Work on your cardio, situps, pushups, and practice squeezing things (eg tennis ball, or those workout grip things ..lol...I don‘t know what they are called) Hope that helps you know what to expect.
