You know, I wish mine was to be at home, and to have a pool party and BBQ at my place, and quite frankly that was the original intent, but with only a few days notice, I got stuck for three days of desk duty, 72hr task, and living at the Regiment until New Year's Day at 0730!

So, tonight my NYE will be at a desk in RHQ, overlooking Chauvel Drive, here at Galllipoli Barracks. I'll be in bed by 2300h.

At 0800h CST in Canada on your 31 Dec 07, it will be 0001h, 01 Jan 08 here in Queensland.

A year ago tonight, we had a few discrete shots of vodka, with some Sprite from the DFAC, and at midnight, Dusty, Patto, and myself left the semi-safety of our former Republican Guard concrete sanctuary, and poked our heads over the T-walls, it was cold, just under the freezing mark, and we watched the 'tracer' show over central Baghdad, courtesy of the NIA, and other unidentified sources. Some of the shooting was only 200m from us. For over 30 mins, it was on again-off again, at times intense long burts and uncontrolled undisciplined mayhem. Red tracer skyward at all sorts of angles. What goes up must come down, and it does, usually with the odd bullet finding its mark on some poor bastard or bastardette. What a place Baghdad was. Anyways, enough of the reminicing, ha!

Party hard Canucks - I won't be  >:( , ha! looks like I will have to wait til 2009.

To all out there, deployed, or at home, or stuck like me in the Duty room vortex, have fun, and play safe.

Cheers,

Wes

Well, its 1900h local, which makes just a little bit longer than 5 hrs left in 2007. The sun has set on the last day of 2007 here in Queensland.

And what a year, eh!

For me, It was a year full of change, most not the best, but as soldiers and men, and overall decent blokes, we accept our fate, pick up the broken pieces, put them in the garbage, dust ourselves off, evolve, adapt and carry on. Easier said than done. Those that have been there can identify no doubt.

Here is some 20 key words tell my phucked up year in a nutshell.

1. distance
2. fear and mateship
3. comprimise
4. homecoming
5. disappointment, and unhappiness
6. anxiety, depression, and other related OSI's
7. whisky and rum
8. isolation
9. change
10. shock
11. disgust
12. betrayal
13. dispair
15. pride
17. recovery
18. morale
19. hope; and
20. new

I hope 2008 is a better year for all of us (including myself), than 2007 ever was or could be. One door closes, and another opens.

Happy New Year to all members on here.

Regards from the Duty Room here at the oldest Unit in the Australian Army,

Wes

Well, its going on 2030h local here on NYE 2007. The weather is shit, its wet and windy, but about 25C. NYE celebrations from The Sunny to The Gold have been cancelled, and here in Bris-Vegas, things have been scaled back, even the fireworks, details are yet to be TBA'd. All because of the weather.

Here on base, a small town funeral home would be more active. 7 Bde is quiet.

So, until 2008 Australian time, Happy New Year!!!

Cheers,

Wes

Happy New Years to you too Wes. Hopefully 2008 will bring you more joy and all around better luck then 2007 has.

Best Wishes.

Happy New Year! I'm off to the Mess and the New Year's ball tonight. Haven't done that in years but I thought that Mrs IHS would appreciate a chance to gussy up a little and cut a rug. It's kind of a farewell for me too as I'm proceding to Ottawa on IR as of Jan 14. One last chance to say goodbye to some work mates. Hopefully I'll only be up there two years.

Happy New Year to you Wes and all the others who stand this night.  It could be worse, like 6 cms of snow and rain on top of that which, albeit, is nice and wintery, has to shoveled by someone and makes NYE partying and driving a bit treacherous.
Happy New Year to all and be safe this new year surrounded by friends.
:salute:

Happy New Year Wes and all the other members here on the site. It seems that I may have to baby-sit two of my nephews tonight, with another stom comming tonight too. Oh well, I'm use to it now ;)

0200h 01 Jan 08.

Up for a slash, and then the phone rang, and now can't sleep!

Its now 2008!

Happy New Year to all!

Cheers,

Wes

Happy New Year Wes, and all who do the job 7/24 through the holidays!

Sounding like an old fart, but sweetie and I plan to hit the rack early (~9pm) - we don't get much of a chance to do so when we're working, so we take advantage when we can.  No, we DON'T think we're geeky for having no plans!  ;)  Hosting best friend and his sweetie tomorrow afternoon before he heads back home - no big meals, but bit of cured pork of various descriptions, cheese and home-baked bread in the afternoon.

well, now its 0740h, 01 Jan 08. Tour complete, and I am going home. The weather is still crap outside. If it wasn't for the air conditioner blowing in my face, by the looks of things outside, it seems to be a typical miserable fall Saskatchewan rain storm, and it looks cold, but it aint.

Cheers Canucks, and have a great NYE in the Great White North,

Wes

Happy New Year, Wes, and don't be kissing any Cane Toads.

Sweatie

A happy New Year to all.  I am on duty on ship tonight.  Being an old fart, I volunteered to do it.  Let the youngsters go out and drink their faces off.  May "08" be better for us all.  My best to all.
