Today is April Fools...

I'm in full damage-control mode.  I got a whack of comments and at least three emails about my "promotion and posting".  My status has been updated, to include "April Fools".  Oh, my mom was one who sent me an email.  I think I'm heading straight to hell, and no priest (in his right mind) would give me absolution!

Gnerated a bogus loading message sending me on SOBQ and sent it to my boss.

Did anyone else hear the CBC report this morning about Alfredson running for mayor?  I LMAO.  They actually interviewed him about his platform.  #11 for 2011.  11% tax hike, 11% cut to city staff.  He said he would enact a city staff policy on tri-lingualism to include Sweedish.  He started speaking in Sweedish and said things like tax hike.  He also said he would continue to play hockey because with an IPhone he could conduct city business while on the bench since his shifts were only 45 seconds long.

Funny stuff.

Canada buys half of Hawaii
by Sympatico.ca
Canada has just closed a deal to purchase half of the Hawaiian Islands.

The deal is touted as a groundbreaking new way for the US to generate money in order to bounce back from the tough economic times it has seen in the past couple years. Terms of the deal were not fully disclosed, but those familiar with the negotiations put the final price at around $2.3B USD. The purchased land is rumoured to carry the name "Harper Islands"

Talks are currently underway to determine where exactly the border would dissect the islands. Once those details are worked out, each country will build their own immigration and customs offices in order to make travelling through the islands as painful as possible.

John Hennechuk, Canada's chief Island Procurement Officer was excited to have the contract finally signed.

"This is a huge deal for us, and now that we have our own tropical locale, we'll need to shoot new tourism videos and ensure Europeans that our side of Hawaii is American-free."

The deal has left some Americans stunned, while others welcome the sale as a new way to generate income.

"I can't believe it. I live on the land that was sold to the Canadians, does that mean I'm a Canadian now?" asked one local business owner.

"I don't even like Hawaii, it's full of volcanoes and surfers," commented one New Yorker.

With most of the details still uncertain, one very important and dangerous bit of information has recently leaked to the media.

Well yesterday as 01 Apr down here. The rumour about a 'regimental' 1200 early knock was true  . The CO opened the boozer 'til 1300. So as of yesterday, my 4 day long weekend spectacular has already begun.  There was a few silly things ongoing within our Squadron, which was much fun.  Last night was uneventful, fell asleep on the lounge watching NCIS, only woken by one of the Siamese sentinals licking my face with his sandpaper tongue, then racking out in a real bed until 0400, been up since

However, me being single and on my own, I have to make up my own fun for this four day weekend.

Since its Good Friday now (all shops are shut here on the island (www.bribie.com.au). I had my traditional fish (shark) and chips for brekky, downed with a ice cold CC and ginger ale at 0600(yes, only one drink), and I am now going out the door to catch the incoming high tide on the Sea-Doo, maybe head over to Donnybrook for a squizz/recce at the giant mango tree next to the caravan park, yes to liberate a few ripe ones of course. Nothing beats real fresh mangos off a tree. Might take my cam  ;D

Gotta love the tropics - even in fall. METREP is a top of 29C today with some cloud.

Cheers,

OWDU

Jordanian paper's April Fool's joke about UFOs sparks panic, almost leads to town's evacuation

AMMAN, Jordan - A Jordanian newspaper's April Fool's Day report chronicling a late-night visit by 10-foot-tall aliens in flying saucers sparked public panic and almost led to the town's emergency evacuation, officials said Monday.

The Al Ghad newspaper published a front-page article April 1 about the fake UFO landing near the desert town of Jafr, some 185 miles (300 kilometres) from the capital, Amman. The report said the UFOs lit up the whole town, interrupted communications and sent fearful residents streaming into the streets.

Jafr's mayor, Mohammed Mleihan, got caught up in the paper's prank and said he sent security authorities in search of the aliens.

"Students didn't go to school, their parents were frightened and I almost evacuated the town's 13,000 residents," Mleihan told The Associated Press. "People were scared that aliens would attack them."

A Jordanian security official, speaking on condition of anonymity in order to discuss security issues, said an emergency plan was almost enacted in Jafr.
