hey,
I was just wondering about the tours...i know that you can be away for six months at a time...but is that the standard, can you be gone for shorter peroids...or does it depend which ship your posted on and/or the trade your in??? And as well i was wondering how often do you have to go on these tours....Thanks again Jenn

ships can be gone for a day or up to 6 or 7 months depending on what the ship is doing. It does depend on what ship your on yes. But not trade.

most trips are 3 weeks to a month, depending on the ship, the trips maybe more frequent than other ships.

To be making a multiple 3 week sails wouldnt make any sense at all for the big "boats"  :P The Mcdv's do sails of a couple weeks at a time. But thats what are "boats" are designed for. Andpro is 16 some Im not sure where his information is coming from....

I personally have not sailed but my father has for the last 2 years. His trips are usually about 3 weeks but very frequent.

This link says they have been at sea for the last 4mos and still have 2mos to go......

HMCS Montreal is on a Nato, is it not? He replaced HMCS Ville De Quebec in october I think. So it is due to a 6  months trip.

I can state that undoubtedly the Montreal is on NATO.  (Although we're technically done with the SNMG-1 Fleet now)

In discussion with some of the guys who've been here longer than I, this ship has been pretty busy over the past several years (ie almost non-stop.)

Back to the original question though, some trips are longer than others, but typically you'll see more shorter ones than longer.

I'm on my 3rd 6 Month trip in 12 1/2 years, but have lost count of the little month long ones, the couple of weeks here and there that crop up (Salty Dips) etc.

Truth is, you won't know until your significant other gets posted to a ship just what to expect from it's schedule.  Sometimes you'll get lucky and end up joining a ship that's about to go into a refit period.  Other times, you'll get lucky (like me) and get posted to a ship that's going on a 6 month NATO.

You take what you get, and look to your friends/family for support.  I've called my sister-in-law a few times to have her set stuff up for my wife while I've been away, that way she gets contact with family/friends a bit more.

A lot depends on the readiness of the ship, but most ships see a long deployement every 2-3 years.  Its the small two week sail here, one week there that suck.  Nothing like doing the Vic 500 for a week.

hello,

well i never knew that you could go on little tours...i thought that you had to go on tours 6 months at a time...that is good news...thanks that just made my day..as well thanks for all the other information...Jenn

Its not a tour really if its only a couple weeks. Its more of a trip, they use these to test equipment, and train with other navies mainly the Americans.

Tour/trip/deployment whatever. All that matters to her is her boyfriend will be away for a specific length of time....
