I am currently going through my application process, and im preparing my cardiovascular endurance for infantry dp1. I am currently overweight, at 178cm 108kg slowly progressing downwards in terms a weight from 117kg in the beginning of September. i can easily complete all the expectations for BMQ except the 5km in under 30mins. I currently walk on a treadmill at 3.5mph for 10 mins, then 24mins at 5mph, then 9 mins at 3.5mph again to reach 5km in 43mins total. I tried to up my speed to 6mph for 20 mins and failed miserably being unable to continue at the 10 min mark. do i keep extending the length of my run until i can run the entire 5km before i increase my speed or do i micromanage both slowly.

You need to do both but not at the same time. Speed comes from running intervals (fast for 1 min, slow for 2 mins, repeat). Distance comes from kilometers under your feet in the aerobic zone foe your heart rate.

If you can't run under 30 min 5km you are going to struggle even at BMQ let alone Battle School.
