Training?

Hey, I have been an Army Cadet for almost 4 years now and frankly am getting tired of just basically babysitting kids. There is no doubt in my mind that I am  hopefully going to join the Reserves, I have been told many things about joining up from different people and i just have a few questions about being a Reservist.

1. What is the minimum age for joining Primary Reserves? ( I have been told its 16 but others are telling me its 17)
2. Are Reservist's trained to the same extent as Regular Force members?
3. Are curtain trades not available because of high demand? ( for example Infantry)

The answers to all of your questions can be found by searching and browsing the forums and the CF Recruiting website.  Currently many trades and Reserve units are taking very few new recruits, so you'll have plenty of time to read and research.

In brief your answers are "17", "not always, many courses are shorter, having been reduced to the technical fundamentals to execute tasks, while other courses are the same for Reg and Res", and "yes."

Nope we are out of the textile industry and don't need curtain guys anymore.

Actually, not in all cases now. From CANFORGEN 038/11:

3. IN THE RESERVE FORCE, AN APPLICANT MUST BE:

A. AGE 18, IF THE APPLICANT ENROLS IN THE COATS OR CANADIAN RANGERS

B. AGE 16, IF THE APPLICANT IS SELECTED FOR EDUCATION AND TRAINING AT A ROYAL MILITARY COLLEGE OR OTHERWISE MAINTAINS FULL-TIME STUDENT STATUS UNTIL AGE 17

C. AGE 17 IN ANY OTHER CASE
