Trudeau Popularity - or not (various polling, etc.)

Not a perfect place to *put this, but rather than start a new thread, figured that the assessment of how woke (or not) Canadians are in general relates closely to he who pushes many of the related agendas.

The Angus Reid study he cites in his full report is significantly more comprehensive, in depth, and nuanced- altogether more interesting read.

Both the AR Study you note, as well as his own full report at Macdonald-Laurier (Kaufman’s MLI report), are very insightful reads…and actually correlate reasonably closely. I have *looked for other such studies in an attempt to find reasonably neutral, statistically-based reports, but both AR and MLI studies/reports are pretty neutral.

So, the TLDR is this essentially this: Twitter outrage mobs do not represent the average person, despite media pretending they do.
and the fear of speaking out against the perceived majority actually prevents the true majority from prevailing. So Toronto spends 10 million dollars to remove Dundas from its lexicon because of a very small minority of well-funded agitators.

It's why things like this and a carbon tax to justify fighting climate change needs to go to referendum.

Fair, I just found the Kaufman report to be superficial in comparison, and the presentation of findings to be misleading - especially given the intended audience and intended purpose (conservatives and informing conservative political strategy).

It's a question of framing, if you tell a group primarily made up of Defiant Objectors and Frustrated Skeptics (people's whose personal definition of "woke" is much further right) that 80% of Canadians aren't "woke" run the risk of them misinterpreting the findings and assuming 80% are in alignment with them- when that is far from the case. You can see it already in this thread.

The reality of the findings is that the truly "woke"/ Zealous Activists are a minority - as they are in the compared countries. But looking at the more detailed data you see that the Defiant Objectors are also a minority. There's no silent majority of hardcore Republicans in Canada, there IS majority support for BLM, acceptance of concept of systemic discrimination etc, just not to the same extent/ wanting the same "solutions" as the zealous. If there was an accepted word for the inverse of "woke" Kauffman's findings would apply to them as well. The majority of the population lies in the middle.

I would highly encourage anyone reading this thread to not only read the Angus Reid report, but self score their segmentation quiz

Agreed new and additional taxation shouldn't be allowed with out a referendum.

Perhaps add in to the EMA a clause for this without referendum, if used the taxation automatically ceases when the EMA is rescinded.

Perhaps who set the agenda of Canadian Military Journal [Vol. 23, No. 3, Summer 2023] should have read these reports prior to unleashing this issue.

When the Toronto Star says it's time, Team Red (and Team Orange) back roomers have to know it's time ....
