Trump administration 2024-2028

So as this gets more crazy essentially every day...

Do we have any takers to say it's just "TDS" at this point or has it sort of become universal that this has gone completely off the deep end?

Some of these tweets are completely wild. It's sort of impressive it's gotten to this point, I mean between the white house social media and Trumps personal stuff there's not many lines we haven't crossed by now! I can honestly say, I never expected this sort of, uhm, presidential behaviour?

You'll never guess who also noticed a definite change, all the way back in 2017.

And yet for his party and supporters, its somehow not a bridge to far still

Seldom have I seen anyone in recent memory who, as a politician, is as full of hatred as Trump. Hatred tends to breed more hatred.

He's pliable, just as Biden was pliable. Whether or not his social media output and interviews range from embarrassing to insane is irrelevant to many of those who are advancing their political aims via his administration. Aesthetics simply don't carry much weight with them, and, even when they do care, they are in "whatabout" mode. They are taking advantage of every already breached "norm", and adding a few.

Trump orders bridge between Detroit and Windsor stay closed/not open after being built

Trump says Canada, U.S. will ‘immediately’ start negotiations over Windsor-Detroit bridge

This is, of course, utterly without merit. Canada paid for the bridge in its entirety. Hell, Trump was even praising the deal in 2017. This is nothing more than him attempting a shakedowm. It’ll just turn into another thing he loses in court if he persists.

One hundred percent the owners of the other bridge have whined and bribed Trump.
Can’t be bothered to look it up, but isn’t the plan to ban through trucks in downtown Windsor once the new bridge opens?

If it wasn’t petty and childish (and really bad for cross border trade) we could close the road leading to the Ambassador Bridge for as long as Trump keeps the new one closed… I’m sure the tunnel would be fine for locals and the trucks wouldn’t mind going by Port Huron, right?

A truck shipping parts made in Windsor and going over to Sterling Hgts or Warren, MI is not going to drive to Sarnia, cross at the Blue Water Bridge into Port Huron and then drive the 45mins down into Warren.

This is simply a case of Trump being Trump. If the Fed's can wait him out and not care about the bridge not being open for another 2,5yrs then just leave it closed. The state of Michigan will put more and more pressure on Trump to get it open before then. There is no pressing need, in terms of volume of traffic using the existing Ambassador Bridge or the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel that it can't wait him out.

Oh, I know all that. I should have used <sarcasm>

From our end, meanwhile ....
Prime Minister Mark Carney said Donald Trump’s threat to stall the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge will be resolved following a call with the U.S. president Tuesday.

“I explained that Canada paid for the construction of the bridge — $4 billion — that the ownership is shared between the state of Michigan and the government of Canada,” Carney told reporters in Ottawa before the weekly cabinet meeting.

The prime minister said he also told Trump that Canadian and American steel and workers were involved in the bridge’s construction ...
