Trump administration 2024-2028

You know who aren't morons? US congress. They manage to have a near clairvoyant ability to guess when stocks are going up and down - like the 40 who put stock into Pfizer in 2018.
Sorry, just to clarify. You are suggesting that 40 members of the US Congress had some type of foreknowledge in 2018 that a pandemic coronovirus would emerge from China in 2020 and that Pfizer would go on to develop an mRNA vaccine to combat that specific virus thus greatly increasing the stock value of the company and making those 40 members of Congress wealthy based on their 2018 investment?

Yes, well 39 members to be more percise.

Probably a result from Project Stargate , or maybe Project Grill Flame.

Earlier in the day, Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced he had blocked two US military flights carrying migrants heading toward the country and called on the United States to establish better protocols in its treatment of migrants. Petro also left the door open to receiving repatriated migrants traveling on civilian planes.

Following Petroā€™s announcement, Trump criticized him on social media while announcing a slate of new sanctions and policies targeting Colombia, including a 25% tariff on all imports from the country, a ā€œtravel banā€ for Colombian citizens, and a revocation of visas for Colombian officials in the US along with ā€œall allies and supporters.ā€

Trump also ordered stricter inspections of cargo shipments arriving from Colombia, along with banking and finance sanctions and visa sanctions on ā€œall Party Members, Family Members, and Supporters of the Colombian Government.ā€

Begun, the Tariff Wars have

Trump has announced 25% ā€œemergencyā€ tariffs, a travel ban, and sanctions on Colombia for refusing to accept military flights carrying migrants. Looks like Trump is actually serious about beating you over the head if you donā€™t enthusiastically respond how high when he says jump. Not good for Colombia, but I guess weā€™re lucky Trump decided to make an example of Colombia instead of Canada as his first tariff target.

EDIT: Corrected spelling of Colombia. I think the auto-complete on my phone was leading me astray.

Colombia, por favor.

It looks like the US attempted to deport migrants with Colombian citizenship the US no longer deemed allowed to stay and Colombia refused them.

FAFO?

It doesnā€™t seem like Colombia is categorically rejecting the return of their own citizens, just that they donā€™t want it done by military aircraft. Using civilian aircraft to return migrants to their countries either through commercial flights or dedicated chartered flights is common practice, but Trump seems to want the optics of using military aircraft to appear tough on immigration. Hence for Trump itā€™s not enough that you jump when he says you jump (accept return of migrants using civilian aircraft as per standard practice) but you have to jump enthusiastically (accept return of migrants using military aircraft or whatever other stipulations Trump wants to tack on).

... It'll be interesting to see how quickly said tariffs'll kick into play, against what, and what, if any, implementation friction there is with the new regime in play šŸæ
Or it might be interesting to see how Colombia responds - usual initial report caveats apply ....

Thanks for the clarification. Now I think I understand where you're coming from on the vaccine issue.
Ha!

In fairness I should have said "Maybe šŸ˜‰"
Although, Project Stargate was actual secret 20 year multimillion dollar project run by the CIA that researched that stuff. The CIA seemed to believe in the possibility of its existence.

Of course there's no circumstantial evidence pointing towards members of congress having any idea back in 2018. Just one of those coincidental good guesses congress seem good at. Especially Pelosi apparently.

Now, fast forward to 2025. The new "Project Stargate" is estimated to cost $500B and involving something to do with AI. Maybe Trump is hoping AI can predict the future.

For the sake of debate let's say you're right and Trump wanted to use a military aircraft for appearances instead of some other logistical reason.

Colombia didn't like it and said no. Odd considering Colombia doesn't seem to mind all the military aid and training the US shares with them ($1.7B in aid since 2017?), but it is what it is.

Trumps penchant for being dramatic and posturing isn't news to anyone. Colombia should have suspected how Trump would react to the flight being refused. Hopefully whatever they gained by refusing a green plane instead of white plane is worth the incoming tariffs, travel ban, and any other punishments the US levels at them.

Looks like the thing about to Colombian presidential plane was perhaps bullshit? The Colombian presidential plane is pushing back hard. Looks like Colombia will accept returned citizens by civilian airliner, but they arenā€™t letting USAF fly in military and dump pax.

Colombia is promising retaliatory tariffs, and a greater openness to the rest of the world.not great coverage given that itā€™s Sunday, but the Beeb, as one would expect, seems to be keeping up.

Iā€™m about out of my current can of coffee. Iā€™ll check where my next pack is grown and roasted. My usual Folgers is American, so Iā€™ll look to substitute that.

Reasonable can never be objective. It is always the sum of opinions.

Even if the entire population bar one is convinced of the validity of a course of action it does not preclude the possibility that, when the proposition is put to the test, that that solitary, unique individual, the unreasonable holdout, is objectively correct.

Donald Trump is the reasonable solution. šŸ˜‡
Not in the English based legal system. "Reasonable" is measured by the opinion of the "Man of the Clapham Omnibus."

My concern is that with the advent of social media, the man on the Clapham omnibus is getting progressively dumber.

It's a weird hill to die on.

The US has 3 airforce bases in Colombia. I'm surprised the US didn't just send the flights there then kick the dudes out of the front gates.
