Trump administration 2024-2028

I won't even argue that a correction in government bureaucracy isn't necessary as I constantly argue that its necessary here in Canada. I genuinely hope that things don't go too far under Trump because I'm one of those Canadians who genuinely likes the vast majority of Americans that I've met and I like their country.
I genuinely hope that Canada hasn’t been compromised by China (and Russia) too far, which is a domestic Damoclesian disaster that few seem to appreciate for its effect that will make anything Trumpian happening south of the border pale in comparison to the compromise of a democratic society here.

I'm one of those Canadians who genuinely likes the vast majority of Americans that I've met and I like their country. That's the problem when the clowns are in charge though. Anarchy, and believe me, this Trump administration is anarchy, is hard to control.

Liked one of them so much I asked her to marry me. ( Surprisingly, she said yes. ) :)

As far as Americans liking each other, I won't be around for it, but for those who will , it will be interesting to observe how young American women and men ( now between the ages of 18 - 29 ) get along over the next half century.

They say social media lives forever.

It will only take a little snooping around on the woman's part to discover if a guy they might be interested in posted memes of women crying, or gave them a (y) , back when they were young internet tough guys.

I never predicted the outcome of the election.

I bet $ on Team Red to win. Two days before the election.

3 Nov.

My wife voted with her "feelings". Not being eligible to do so myself, I bet my money on Minority Rule.

Although Team Red has not won the Popular Vote in 20 years, my $ is on them winning the Electoral College.

Since the 25 least populated states have about 16 per cent of the population, a sixth of the country can control the Senate. Therefore, my $ is on Team Red taking the Senate.

That will give Team Red control of the Supreme Court.

Less certain about the House of Representatives, but my money is still on Team Red.

I've lost bets before, so lets see what happens!

Will US ever get a woman President? Only if she is Republican, says Bill Clinton

The American cabinet system, like ours, is filled with people from outside the civil service, very often from "private enterprise." In Canada many are more properly classed as career politicians, as distinct from civil servants. In the US there is a much higher percentage from "private enterprise" regardless of which party is in power. What makes the next administration's picks significant is the low quality of those picks. It's not that there is a shortage of qualified and able Republicans available; its just that this administration has a penchant for seeking out clowns. The best that I can say for them is that if your mission is to cripple the US federal bureaucracy, this is the way to go about it. There are already many hard-core Republicans - even MAGAs - already in the civil service who will execute even the stupidest of plans.

Let me be clear though. I fully recognize that Trump made no secret where he wanted to go and what he wanted done and 76 million Americans voted for him, regardless. This time he actually got the popular vote and no one can argue that the American people are not getting what they bargained for. I won't even argue that a correction in government bureaucracy isn't necessary as I constantly argue that its necessary here in Canada. I genuinely hope that things don't go too far under Trump because I'm one of those Canadians who genuinely likes the vast majority of Americans that I've met and I like their country. I agree with the sentiment of your post, though not all the details. This US election result is a backlash, and it might be ugly. It is also a lesson for when one side takes things too far.

I suspect it is also ignorance of specific groups. If you don’t include male white types or Muslim’s or male black men etc in your “inclusion” plans then you risk having them move to the other side that will include them.

The NDP here is doing that by abandoning the working class for example. Sending them to the conservatives who are happy to take them on.

Probably similar to Nancy Pelosi and her trading practices.
A whole bunch of politicians on both sides of the aisle did the same thing, and I wouldn't appoint them to be in charge of national programs either.

In any case, Nancy Pelosi isn't in charge of overhauling Medicare, so not sure how that's relevant to how wildly unqualified all his appointees are for their jobs, where even some of his cowed bootlickers aren't happy.

Ambassador to Canada: Pete Hoekstra. Trump's ambassador to Netherlands '18-21, former congressman from Michigan.

He’s apparently another project 2025 contributor.

Been around for a while though. Not a Fox News host.

Wasn’t too popular in the Netherlands after some interesting links to far right groups.

But not his first ambassadorial role.

Don’t know much about him but I’m sure the Canadian media will be all over it for the next little while.

You mean the document that Trump doesn’t know about at all, but yet so many contributors just happen to be in positions for his second term?

Pelosi and a whole whack of politicians have made oodles of money by crooked trading leveraging their political positions. Pretending like the sky is falling because someone MIGHT do it this time is disingenuous to say the least.

Relax, get some popcorn. Enjoy the show. We get to do it all again in 4 years.

Excellent perspective on the Hegseth nomination.

It has long been an article of faith that, to execute its functional imperative on behalf of the nation, the military of necessity must maintain an identity distinct from that of liberal society. Indeed, a democratic republic faces a paradox: The military cannot govern itself in accordance with the democratic principles of society at large. If the military fails, the society it protects may not survive. And long experience has taught us that certain kinds of behavior are destructive of good order, discipline, and morale, without which a military organization will certainly fail. The goal of military policy must be victory on the battlefield — a purpose that cannot be in competition with any other, including the provision of entitlements, “equal opportunity,” or diversity. Indeed, the battlefield mocks “diversity.” Unfortunately, many of those in positions of responsibility — including far too many senior members of the military itself — seem to have forgotten this imperative.
