Trump administration 2024-2028

A DC cop’s view on the situation in DC. He’s not impressed.
I'm shocked that a DC cop could be found who would express a contrary opinion.

Using NG as props for show is maybe just on the acceptable side of the knife edge of the American concensus and constitutional provision against using military forces for routine law enforcement. There are a few responses. One is to complain loudly. Another is to challenge it in courts. Yet another is to secure the streets to the satisfaction of the people who live in them and whose gut response to these illiberal intrusions is to approve and vote for more of it.

Pre-Trump status quo was acceptable to the people smugly running it, and dissatisfying to many people for various reasons. The balance of power and the satisfaction/dissatisfaction have flipped. A few, but not enough, of the displaced are advocating for a politics that focuses on fixing problems, not blame. Most people still just want crow about the failures and foibles and obstruct change wherever they can while hoping for a restoration of their world.

Some not great news for the baltics, it's hard to not see this as Trump offering them up on a silver platter for Russia.
Sure it's not great news, but if European NATO without the assistance of the US can't defeat Russia or even merely deter a Russian attempt to take on a NATO member, it's not worth propping up - Europe should be interested enough in its own security to commit sufficient resources to maintain it. Endlessly highlighting ways in which the US is withdrawing various incarnations of subsidies is not a particularly high moral plane to occupy.

It should have been obvious for decades that relying too much on the US in Europe, or Asia, is a fragile strategy. The apparent licence to spend on butter rather than guns is too attractive, though.

The US has a huge deficit and debt, and a significant plurality of Americans are offended by European attempts to impose costs and controls on US-based companies. Europeans - and Canada - are choosing some policies poorly. There is no particular reason the US should not be as insistent about its own interests as, say, France.

Watch and shoot...

Trump says Venezuelan jets will be shot down if they endanger US ships

Donald Trump has warned that, if Venezuelan jets fly over US naval ships and "put us in a dangerous position, they'll be shot down".

The president's warning comes after Venezuela flew military aircraft near a US vessel off South America for the second time in two days, US officials told the BBC's US partner CBS News.

The reports follow a US strike against what Trump officials said was a "drug-carrying vessel from Venezuela" operated by a gang, killing 11 people.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has said that the US allegations about his country are not true, and that differences between the nations do not justify a "military conflict".

"Venezuela has always been willing to talk, to engage in dialogue, but we demand respect," he added.

When asked by reporters in the Oval Office on Friday what would happen if Venezuelan jets flew over US vessels again, Trump said Venezuela would be in "trouble".

Trump told his general, standing beside him, that he could do anything he wanted if the situation escalated.

Since his return to office in January, Trump has steadily intensified his anti-drug-trafficking efforts in Latin America.

I'll just drop this here:

West Point alumni group cancels award ceremony for Tom Hanks

The decision follows a series of political controversies involving the Trump administration that have rattled the prestigious military institution.

I guess West Point is busy preparing cadets to lead troops into Chicago, onto the Mexican border and street sweeping Washington.

The pettiness has hit a new low.

My new guilty pleasure is watching RFK get destroyed by congress at committee and doctors. In the latest battle between RFK and experts, he submitted to congress a report he drafted to explain why they no longer recommend pregnant women get the covid vaccine. He then testified that the report showed increased miscarriages among those who got it. The problem? The report cited as evidence actually showed the opposite in its results, its like he read the title and just threw it in.

I watched his appearance. What a disaster…

The man himself is a disaster.

Glass half full: He's taught me alot about a condition I'd never heard of before ;)

RFK Jr. speaks candidly about his gravelly voice: ‘If I could sound better, I would’

The cause of RFK Jr.’s vocal distress? Spasmodic dysphonia, a rare neurological condition, in which an abnormality in the brain’s neural network results in involuntary spasms of the muscles that open or close the vocal cords.
