Green Card Holders must have their card on them at all times, and show upon request to LE. Temporary Residents must show their visa and passport.Ya, I don't know about the US rules for carrying proof of legal residency for non-citizens, let alone having to produce it on demand of law enforcement. Sure sounds like a 'papers please' type of society they want.
On the LE side it is very common to ask about citizenship status and ask for proof, due to open carry firearms laws. Non Resident Aliens cannot legally possess firearms without futility various criteria (which can vary depending on firearm).
That isn’t new and ICE/CBP have been active on racial profiling stops since at least 2009.
As I was out in SanDiego in 2010 and was with a SEAL and a Marine, Marine was in uniform. We got stopped/pulled over by CBP who hassled the Marine for ID as he was of Latino/hispanic descent and when I said I was the only alien in the car I was told to STFU and mind my own business. The Marine SSGT told me this was fairly routine, and he knew the names of many of the CBP folks pulling him over by now.
The only difference between Obama era efforts and POTUS47, is scope/scale and 47’s not hiding it, plus the ICE teams back then didn’t wear masks and act like a hold up crew.
