Trump administration 2024-2028

An hour and a half ago Trump posted on Truth Social that the U.S. will resume nuclear weapons testing. Totally rational, normal, balanced thing to do. I guess if he’s gonna give up on the Nobel Peace Prize, might as well really be obnoxious about it.

The rationale of ‘other countries testing programs’ is a bit perplexing; probably only North Korea has done active warheads tests in the past couple decades, though there have been a small handful of unconfirmed but suspected detonations over the years. Still, he may be tipping his hand on knowledge of non-public nuclear testing. Could be he only means non-warhead testing of delivery systems. His wording, though, definitely seems like he’s set to have Department of Energy shoot off a few nukes.

I checked and verified- the below screenshot is mine.

Setting the table for the meeting with Xi.

There is a woman down in the US who is getting pregnant and aborting on purpose multiple times per year just to spite Trump and USSC. Last time she was on CNN her t-shirt had her “body count” at 42.
It’s all just so over the top.
Nail her with fraud.

I swear, every few weeks shit like this starts making the rounds again, and it’s the same recycled talking points dressed up as “legal analysis.”
Andrew McCarthy has worked as a prosecuting attorney. His legal analysis of relevant US law is probably better than yours or mine. That Bragg's lawyering was creative isn't a fringe idea. I've read plenty of legal analysis, some by obviously Democrat-supporting or progressive-leaning lawyers, that concurs. Whatever anyone thinks, it's not a settled question, and there are plenty of hack judgements that were smacked down hard by higher level courts to show that judges are also capable of bringing high degrees of political bias to the courts. Some of Merchan's decisions turned a lot of heads on both sides of the political divide.

Wait for the appeal.

As for lawfare, there's no refuting that some people decided Trump ought to be guilty of something and subsequently went hunting for things to fit him up. They made promises and bragged when they made progress on those promises.

It seems no side in US partisan politics is free of morons who will do drugs to show their loyalty. The fringe right had their morons who snacked on invermectin.

Anyway, if you are going to brand everyone from “the wrong side” of the political spectrum with the actions of the extreme idiots, then you might be amongst the idiots on your side of the spectrum.

Looks like China was very successful in leveraging its Rare earths dominance to force Trump to roll back a number of tariffs and other hostile trade actions.

So let me get this straight.

Canada cannot drop tariffs to get a favorable deal with China that allows China to buy our agricultural products because we should not allow China to have that much influence in our country, but it's okay when the USA does it?

Okay....

Good point. Thanks for the reminder.

A difference is scale and dependency. The US can afford selective tariff concessions because it controls far more of the global economic chessboard. Canada, with our much smaller market and higher trade dependence, risks giving Beijing asymmetric influence if it plays by the same rules.

To an extent.

I’m of a mind that we can still be pragmatic about dealing with countries like china.

It won’t matter what Carney does with China as his detractors will still decry doing anything either china while lauding Trump for doing similar things. White noise.

Isn't Australia smaller in terms of GDP and more trade dependent on China?

They don't seem beholden to China or a Chinese vassal...

It's fiiiinnnnnneeeeeeeee, Canada can be the only one fighting China in a trade war while countries like Australia and the USA take their money.

The reality is that China is not going to go away. We need to come to a solution on how we are going to have relations with them now and going into the future. Time/effort should be spent on our side to study/understand/ask how Australia (and to a lessor extent NZ) deals/relates to them and then apply the areas that would work best for us and look to solution the outstanding areas into something that is workable and then improve upon those weak areas. In truth, this is something that SHOULD be coming from our Foreign Affairs (or whatever flavour of the month its now called) experts and should be followed by our political entities.
