U.S. Supreme Court to hear arguments in case pushing against Trump’s tariffs
U.S. President Donald Trump’s key tool for deploying tariffs will face a critical legal test in the Supreme Court on Wednesday — one which could upend his plans to realign global trade.www.ctvnews.ca
A loss at SCOTUS will remove one tool - arguably the most potent - from his tariff toolbox. He of course has others. But this is also a critical case in the separation of powers between different branches of government.
There are multiple facets to the case. That’s just one. Thus far it sounds like the administration is getting some serious skepticism from at least a couple conservative judges.Annnnd it appears the court will defer to the president on what constitutes an emergency.
I think it's cooked.
If they defer to the president on what constitutes an emergency, the administration just switches to section 122, section 232, and section 338 tariffs and nothing changes. There are multiple facets to the case. Yeah maybe. But it’s appropriate for the courts to generally defer to the executive on what constitutes an emergency. If they defer to the president on what constitutes an emergency, the administration just switches to section 122, section 232, and section 338 tariffs and nothing changes.
If the states and business win, but nothing changes other than the repayment of tariffs they have already paid, did they win really?Yeah maybe. But it’s appropriate for the courts to generally defer to the executive on what constitutes an emergency.
The SCOTUS is going to rule agaisnt Trump here while leaving open the door to do the exact same thing via other means. We don't defer. Our courts have determined that Trudeau's use of the Emergency Act against the Ottawa protest did not meet the Act's test as to constituting an emergency.

We don't actually have a real executive branch. Deference or lack thereof appropriate for us is irrelevant in the US.We don't defer. Our courts have determined that Trudeau's use of the Emergency Act against the Ottawa protest did not meet the Act's test as to constituting an emergency.
The legislative filibuster isn't going to end at the hands of Republicans. If it ends, it will be at the hands of Democrats.Still trying for the nuclear option, that even a large majority of the GOP disagrees with. Might be seeing further cracks form in the party.
Trump summons GOP senators to White House to call for end to filibuster
I’m not so sure about that. Watch ACB and Kavanaugh. Robert’s is nodding his head with them. The SCOTUS is going to rule agaisnt Trump here while leaving open the door to do the exact same thing via other means.
The equivalent of a security guard saying you cannot enter by this door, while 3 other doors remain wide open.
I knew they were going to twist themselves in knots to give trump what he wanted.
It's going to be an entertaining next few years for sure!![]()
