Trump administration 2024-2028

Carney is off to DC on Friday.

Any expectations of positive news on the trade front coming out of this? Negative news on the trade front out of this?

He going down to kiss the ring for his who cares comments.
Maybe
I think Sheinbaum is going to be there as well for the FIFA event. I really don't expect anything to come out of this. I believe that the trade file is going to be 'closed' now and moved over to the CUSMA negotiations going forward. With the USSC ruling shortly, more than likely against Trump, there really is no reason for us to spend more effort on this. Let the USSC make their ruling, deal with Trump's reactionary fallout from it and focus on CUSMA.

I think it highly likely that Trump will use withdrawal from USMCA as a threat to coerce / bully the other parties to the agreement.

Yes - and we look to have some Allies within the US who will help us.

U.S. industry groups strongly back renewing CUSMA

Manufacturers praise Trump for signing agreement in his first term, urge him to preserve it

Julian Karaguesian, an international trade expert who read through a sample of 50 submissions, tells CBC News that their overall tone broadly favours keeping the agreement intact.

"It's very careful and polite, but it's overwhelmingly in support of, or asking for renewal of CUSMA, with as much elimination of tariffs as possible," said Karaguesian, formerly a special adviser on international trade with Canada’s Department of Finance, now a visiting lecturer in economics at McGill University in Montreal.

Karaguesian says industry groups are making the case to the Trump administration that Canadian and Mexican supplies are integral to their operations and that the two countries’ markets are important to the success of their businesses.

"The government of Canada has hundreds of small-, medium- and large-scale private sector allies," he said.

Exactly.

The commerce clause of the US constitution gives congress power over trade law so Trump him self cant action USMCA withdrawal notice without an act of congress, which I think at this point, house republicans will not give that to him.

That strikes me as an unfounded bit of optimism, given the last 10 months

I think this guy agrees...

Is 2028 the Endgame of Trump’s Rampage?

I am hereby making a bold prediction: There will be no 2028 presidential election in the United States.

The Constitution of the country calls for one, the electoral system is gearing up and ready for one, and politicians in both the Republican and the Democratic parties are preparing to hold multimillion-dollar political extravaganzas that will last almost two years as they fight for power.

But as Donald Trump continues to obliterate other democratic norms in a way that is rapidly bringing the United States more in line with China and Russia than Canada, the possibility that he will attempt to prevent the 2028 election is becoming less farfetched.

Unless they kill the filibuster (which trump has been urging senate republicans to do) it wouldn't get through the senate.
That stands true if it is actually referred to Congress, which would be a break from all trade actions to date.

"Ha ha. Look at all those stupid Trump voters wearing tinfoil hats."

"Oh, look. Here's one I find rather attractive. And it fits me!"

Now if we can only get them to do it outside during a thunderstorm all will be right in the world.

I have very low expectations anything positive will happen.
I have high expectations that he'll attend the FIFA World Cup draw in Washington as scheduled. I'll be happy if it ends with that and no new random outbursts spew from his host. Anything positive out of the meeting beyond that is pure gravy to my mind.
