Trump administration 2024-2028

So the argument now is supposed to be that it's because they were women, not the reasons enumerated in the press.
All three women were doing some crazy stuff that got them fired. The thing is their male collegues have also been up to shady crap and so far Phelan is the first one to get fired.

For example, Kash Patel, the FBI director. He has been using a FBI plane to visit his girlfriend country singer, Alexis Wilkins. And assigned members of a FBI ERT team to protect Wilkins. Then there was his visit to Italy, again using a FBI aircraft, so he can go partying with the US Men's Olympic team.

And now there are allegations of excessive drinking and other erratic behaviour.

We don't know that. There is a complicating factor. Women tend to support (more than men) the kinds of identity politics that Hegseth is manifestly - by his own statements - determined to root out. The fundamental cause would still be gender, but not in the way you seem to be thinking. (If he just wanted women out, surely he'd fire them all.) [Add: and you could look for evidence that some of the men fired were on the wrong side of Hegseth over identity politics, which would further suggest that is the true cause.]

Here is a short list of senior female commanders that have been fired by Hegseth:

  • Adm. Lisa Franchetti: Chief of Naval Operations and first woman to lead the U.S. Navy;
  • Adm. Linda Fagan: Commandant of the Coast Guard and first woman to lead a military branch;
  • Vice Adm. Shoshana Chatfield: U.S. military representative to NATO’s Military Committee;
  • Adm. Yvette Davids: Superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy; and,
  • Lt. Gen. Jennifer Short: senior military assistant to the Secretary of Defense.

Of these five, there was no reason given why four (Short, Davids, Chatfield, and Franchetti) of them were dismissed. As for Fagan there were several reason given for her dismissal.

The fact that two of those dismissed were the first women to hold that post does kind look suspicious.

Then there was Hegseth's recent decision to block the promotion of two black and two female officers even though the promotions had already been approved by senior officers and that all four had exemplary service.
That's not an accurate framing of what happened. He endorsed someone - for whatever reasons - who does hold that position. To understand the difference, recollect that Obama attending Jeremiah Wright's church is not the same thing as being congruent with Jeremiah Wright on all things.

It goes beyond just endorsing someone else's views! Peter Hegseth belongs to a church (Pilgrim Hill Reformed Fellowship, located outside Nashville, Tennessee) which is affiliated with Doug Wilson's Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches (CREC). An ultra conservative group that is patriarchal and that woman "A woman receives, surrenders, accepts” and that only Christians can hold political office in the United States.
