‘Good deal for Canada:’ PM Carney insists not a lot of profits to split with U.S. on Gordie Howe Bridge

Prime Minister Mark Carney is defending the deal brokered between Canada and the United States to open the delayed Gordie Howe International Bridge, despite changes made to split revenue with the U.S. sooner than originally planned.

“The word ‘net’ does a lot of work in this. We are sharing after Canada is paid back,” Carney said in an interview with CTV Calgary’s Tara Nelson at the Calgary Stampede on Sunday when asked about the agreement.

“We get the revenues. Then the servicing of the costs of the bridge and paying the debt of the bridge, and then what’s left over, there’s a split of that for 15 years,” he said.


“There’s not going to be a lot of net to split,” the prime minister later added.

So Trump gets an optics win he can parade around domestically to help him with his political troubles, but there’s little tangible impact or cost to us. If this was basically giving Donnie a pat on the head I have no great issue with that.

I mean, the original deal was Canada took the money until it was paid off and then it splits to 50/50

Now its Canada takes all the money until it paid off, and whatever net there is is split with the USA, which, if we are sane, should be very very little.

Big win for Trump, I guess, but honestly, nothing has changed.
