"Two rockets slammed into Kandahar Airfield Sunday, leaving one NATO soldier injured.

The attack ends a month-long period of relative calm.

CTV's Paul Workman, reporting from Kandahar, said the soldier was not a Canadian.

"The two rockets hit simultaneously in the early evening here," Workman told CTV Newsnet.

"The military tell us that one soldier, not a Canadian, an ISAF soldier, was slightly wounded. The rockets slammed into the ground and sent up gravel and he was hit in the face. He will be released from hospital tonight."

The military maintains the attack was not a significant event, and similar strikes have happened in the past. "

Wooptie freakin do.....must be another slow news day.

Troops, rockets are fired at KAF on a regular basis. Nothing new here at all.

CTV making something out of nothing.

Regards

True, but speaking for myself, I like when the news is slow, hopefully this and the occasional kicking of some AQ ass is all they get for a long time......

+1, no news is good news, aside from news about the Taliban getting chewed up by the coalition.

Well it made it to this means....  ;) Must mean something.

The reason I posted it is because it was the first attack on KAF since 13 Jan: almost a month to the day.  Yes, they used to be daily occurences (from what I understand in the MSM).  So, a month of no rockets, now two today.

I realise that this is somewhat akin to a German newspaper reporting sometime in 1944 on a bombing raid over the Reich.  Having said that, you're right, not newsworthy on the face of it

I remember them happening in little fits.  We'd have several within a short period and then we'd go a while without.

It was Timmie sending us a "welcome card". The reaction of some of the new arrivals was interesting, to say the least.

Speedy recovery to the guy who was hurt

1.  glad no one was hurt too bad
2.  Glad it didn't delay my flight out of there too much.

Mr Workman seems to had not much to report as of late. Its too bad he is being scooped out by all the activity in Helmand province in the British area. That seems to be where the action is last week.

Edit:
To all, would any mention of movement of troops in and out of KAF be in violation of OPSEC/PERSEC?

Heh.... TB gave the new boys arriving a two gun salute

Thanks boys!

Katyushas are common here, and not one mention on thne news.

At times we hear them come over us either from Sadr City or the Karadah area.

I have been on the receiving end near Assasin's Gate, having them come under 50m on one occasion just before Christmas. No warning. No whislting or anything, just BANG! They say if you hear them, you're ok, if not, your dead!

These rockets are not toys, as Katyushas can be fired as far as 20km away, some as long as 9ft! Yes full of Dr. Shrapnel and HE, with effect more than a a 105mm HE and less than a 155HE rd. Spooky crap.

Cheers from a fresh clear morning in Baghdaddy,

Wes

For OPSEC, no troop movements should be disclosed.

I was told by the step kid that he couldn't tell us anything, he'll call when safe, I'm not even sure we can share that phone call. Sure is confusing to a d/arse civvie, one forum says you can talk, another says don't.

So I'll just proceed as usual, just tell everyone the truth - I don't know squat 'bout nothing.  :salute:

im with A_Majoor, a welcoming gift to Roto3.

I had quite the front row seat from where I was. made for an interesting night last night.... certainly brought me into the reality of where I am!

all i can say is thank god no one was killed or seriously injured.

Speedy recovery to the Non Canadian NATO solder who was injured.
