U.S. Operational Army Combat Uniform

out of the green box thinking is required.

Our procurement strategy (if we can call it a strategy) is absolutely not tolerant of out of the box thinking.

We could have bought the new Ranger rifles at LeBaron, and the pistol replacement program could be done with a procurement card and an account at cabelas.ca (they stock the SigMk25, which is probably the modern pistol we need, and is better than the pistol we will never get) -- we could even buy practice ammo locally, and save the expensive IVI stamped stuff for wartime.

None of which is acceptable to our procurement strategy -- Industry Canada, regional offsets, all of it taking years to make decisions... we have plenty of cash, but these are the reasons why we have such difficulty buying things like boots and trucks, let alone UAV's and frigates.

The SGT Major of the Army, has some uniform ideas.Personally its a waste of money. All in the effort to be like the Marines.

And this is how the good idea fairy does his (her?) evil work ...

It's all about the buzz words.

I have been wearing my DEU since I reported in for work last month, although as a PO2 my dress of the day is NCD.  I plan for the time being to continue to wear DEU and asked the points maven if I was at the proper tier (2) instead of (1).  He informed me that I will stay at level 2 and will get tier 1 points.  I have ordered some replacement DEU items and I suppose will have to be extra careful on how I treat them in light of my points allocation.  So, Pusser, FTSO, the system is against someone like me wearing DEU as my dress of the day.  C'est la guerre.

I'm puzzled.  My understanding was that PO2s and above in office environments were automatically allocated the higher number of points.  Who's telling you no?

WTF is it with the black socks for PT gear?  Soldiers are actually asking for this?  There are few things more uncool than black socks with PT gear, or is it just me and my generation?

The chap who's job it is to allocate points to individuals.

I think your chain of command can have him change his mind.

Thank you for that.  I finally have a name for my condition: The Blerch  :o  Now to find a cure...

It's worth a try, however, my predecessor wore NCD only as per the dress of the day for PO2 on down.

I think it must be me.  In my youth, we would not have been caught dead in anything but white socks for athletic endeavours.

The epitome of military athletic endeavour (in your youth?)

Shorts are obviously made by Confection Frontenac, who often made the old combat trousers with legs of slightly different lengths, cargo pockets at different heights and occasionally backwards, and seams that would unravel along their entire lengths.
