Hi guys,

I am at the packing stage of my UAB right now and was wondering what to put in them. Just need some advice from guys that went there. For now this is what I have put:

-Toothpaste                                        -Shampoo
-Soap                                                -Deodorant
-Civies (pt and 'normal')                      - Arid cbt 1 or 2 ?
-Tan safety boots X1                            - Tan boots X1
-Underwear..many  :)                          -Pillow
-Bug net ?                                          -Hanger ?

Of course on the day I fly, I will have my kitbag with FFO and ruck sack ready. For the tour I should spend some time in KAF, sleeping in one of the BAT, for 1 month or two. Same for the PRT, and will also spend some time on the FOB'S. So for KAF and NS, is bringing extension cord and power bar a good idea?  Also for KAF and NS do we have mattress on the cots ? And if so what size? Cause I would bring linen..

Any other info would be appreciated.

Linen and a pillow is a good idea.

If you have space, powerbar and extensions not a bad idea, but they are cheap here anyways.le shelving units is a

Collapsible shelving units are awesome.

Hangers.

Laptop, books, entertainment.

Eotech.  :p

I can tell you that for the BATs at KAF, you generally already have a powerbar. Extension cord might be of help. There's usually plenty of empty rooms that you can scrounge a powerbar from if yours doesn't have it.

The beds in the BATs do have matresses, and you will get sheets, but just one set. A small night-lamp might be a good idea, something you can zapstrap to a bunkbed is good. You do get a locker and a bedside table. For anything else, a small collapsable shelving unit can be a great idea.

You may also want to think of bringing a small-plugin fan. The AC does sometimes crash, and the PX and other stores here are usually out.

Bring linen for a twin size bed.  Don't bring fitted sheets, the flat ones are fine, and you get to practice your hospital corners if you so disire.  I have two sets of sheets, including pillow cases, and a comforter.  Believe it or not, but it can get cool at night in the accommodations at the PRT, especially if you don't have control of the A/C.

A power bar should suffice, and if you need an other outlet on the other end of your room, you can always ask the electrician to install one for you.  He did for me.

There really is no need to bring a lot of shampoo, soap, etc.  You can buy it all at KAF and the PRT.  There is also a lot of items that have been donated by Canadians that you get for free from the CQ (at PRT)

I don't think you really need to bring a lot of hangers.  My room had about 10 there left from the last occupant.  Add that to the 5 I brought, and that's a lot for the next guy!

First of all, I am on your tour. I prpbably gave you your PMed brief at Centre Castor. Do not put your bug net (nor your anti malarials) in your UAB. We arrive during the malaria season and you may require them right away. Also, since your an engineer type, I wouldn't put your safety boots in your UAB, just in case you require them shortly after you arrive. Remember, we might not get our UAB until later on in the tour (a month...two). I would at least bring all your sets of combats, your safety boots, bug net and meds with you on the flight.

As for me, one barrack box will be for my HLTA (good clothes I don't want to ruin in KAF). The other barrack box will be some snivel kit, ie my sens blankie, sens flag, sens poster...)

OH YEAH... GO SENS GO!!!

I hope that helped.
