I can't decide were this should go.  I'm sure that Mr Hellyer is deadly serious in his comments but in a small way it is quite sad to see this being played out in public.  http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/afp/070228/canada/canada_environment_kyoto_3

(I'm trying very hard not to do the kitchy cliches of, "the truth is out there.", "they have a plan" or "make it so." but I'm finding resistance is futile...)

UFO science key to halting climate change: former Canadian defense minister

OTTAWA (AFP) - A former Canadian defense minister is demanding governments worldwide disclose and use secret alien technologies obtained in alleged UFO crashes to stem climate change, a local paper said Wednesday.

"I would like to see what (alien) technology there might be that could eliminate the burning of fossil fuels within a generation ... that could be a way to save our planet," Paul Hellyer, 83, told the Ottawa Citizen.

Alien spacecrafts would have traveled vast distances to reach Earth, and so must be equipped with advanced propulsion systems or used exceptional fuels, he told the newspaper.

Such alien technologies could offer humanity alternatives to fossil fuels, he said, pointing to the enigmatic 1947 incident in Roswell, New Mexico -- which has become a shrine for UFO believers -- as an example of alien contact.

"We need to persuade governments to come clean on what they know. Some of us suspect they know quite a lot, and it might be enough to save our planet if applied quickly enough," he said.

Hellyer became defense minister in former prime minister Lester Pearson's cabinet in 1963, and oversaw the controversial integration and unification of Canada's army, air force and navy into the Canadian Forces.

He shocked Canadians in September 2005 by announcing he once saw a UFO.

Problem solved.  Inform the government of this information.

You know, isn't there something vaguely unethical about quoting the senile in the press.

It's kind of like watching the opening episodes of American Idol - we all laugh at the freaks - but in the end, it's cruel to laugh at the mentally diminished.......

If that fails - perhaps lining his hats with tinfoil will keep the 'Greys' from reading his thoughts.

What's changed? He was senile forty years ago when he created  "air force" green, tried to wipe out the regimental system, and deprived the navy of their beloved "square-rig".  For years the "new" rank of MCpl was contemptuously referred to as a "Hellyer Corporal".

I think the little green men--sorry; grey men--had already absconded with his brain then. So tinfoil at this late date won't help.

The real question is though- does anyone actually give a damn what Hellyer has to say?

Strange if it's true. Anyone have some background on this guy?

He's got a long history of talking about this.

Hoo boy... this explains alot:

Canada's ex-defense minister: U.S. knows how aliens can make us greener

Hellyer believes that humans have always fired on alien craft rather than attempt to approach their inhabitants and understand them. The aliens, he said in a previous speech in 2008, want to stop us from destroying ourselves.

In that speech, Hellyer declared: "Decades ago, visitors from other planets warned us about where we were headed and offered to help. But instead we, or at least some of us, interpreted their visits as a threat, and decided to shoot first and ask questions after," he told the conference.

Planes were lost, he said, either because of retaliation or stupidity.

Hellyer insists he has seen UFOs. In his book, "Light at the End of the Tunnel," he said he also believes that the U.S. has a "shadow government" that has black ops installations that have already created new forms of energy using extra-terrestrial technology.

"I do not have proof of that," he told AOL News. "But I believe that they have developed energy sources, and publicly I'm saying that if they do not exist in commercial form, that extraterrestrials would certainly give us that information if we would ask them for it and stop shooting at them."

I am fascinated. What kind of new alien-inspired energy sources might have already been created? Might they have something to do with San Francisco Giants' pitcher Brian Wilson and his strange, constant companion, The Machine?
