US Hellfire missile wrongly shipped to Cuba

    8 January 2016
From the section US & Canada

An inert US Hellfire missile sent to Europe for a training exercise was wrongly shipped on to Cuba, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The incident in 2014 could have led to a serious loss of military technology, officials told the paper.

US officials have since been trying to get Cuba to return the missile, which did not contain explosives.

Investigators are unclear if the incident was an error or the result of espionage, the paper says

Someone obviously didn't pass the same CTAT test that I had to take in a small classroom in Prince George in the winter time, which was supposed to stop these kinds of things happening, cold.

WASHINGTON — The United States has recovered a missile that was accidentally sent to Cuba in 2014 after a logistical mix-up in Europe, bringing an end to an unusual and sensitive episode in the world of defense.

The dummy training version of a US Hellfire missile was returned to the US with the “cooperation of the Cuban government,” State Department deputy spokesman Mark Toner said Saturday, declining to provide specifics.

Indeed it was, but it may well have had circuitry to simulate various functions including some that would have to be verified before loading on the aircraft and while it was being armed in flight. Just a guess from a guy who's electronic ability peaked at changing smoke detector batteries.
