See I'm thinking the opposite. Regardless of who wins there won't be a civilian war. No riots in the streets. No end of days.

During Obamas election there were fears of all the white supremacist losets rising up and being violent.

During Trumps election there was talk of the US turning into Nazi Germany if he got elected.

Trump Vs Biden - Trump losing meant a civil war. Biden winning meant Republicans would get rounded up and so on.

My guess is regardless of who wins, the US will look like the last 4 years. And last 4 years before that.

The difference is that Jan 6 radically changed things. The other examples were hypothetical, but that time, people actually got into the Capitol.

What would have happened if the guards actually let them into the House or Senate, when they were in session?

Jan 6th was that “holy crap, this isn’t hypothetical anymore” moment for me.

I’m not saying civil war or riots in the streets. I’m more thinking IMVE threats who right now are hoping for a Trump win, but who may resort to domestic terrorism in the event of a loss. That’s always been there and always will be, but it can boil up or simmer down depending on how much they feel the elected government will act on their grievances.

A lot of people don’t accept the legitimacy of any government generally, and a Democrat one in particular. Grievances without a perceived sympathetic political outlet can boil over. Don’t forget that some people are simply irrational and unhinged, and that threats to their ideology can simply be the spark to the mental health powderkeg.

But once again, going back to @KevinB ‘s example and other posters here, there are the ones who are not declaring either way to polls. Abortion could totally be a top priority for them.

Polls are more reliable than peoples' gut feelings based on yard signs and what the people in their social circle or even social group are saying.

As an aside, I’m not sure how something that affects over 50% of the population (I’m including people who aren’t yet, or are past, childbearing age because they also either have, or will be, affected) is not in the top 10 issues.

I've written before that surveys indicate most Americans favour some restrictions, and right now the Democratic position is to aim for none. If the surveys properly represent American attitudes, then immediately the fraction favouring the Democratic position is less than a simple majority.

Separately, the author of “Fire and Fury” back in 2017 or so released the interview with Jeffery Epstein. The sad part (to me) is that while these allegations would have sunk any other candidate, I read the article and I thought that it isn’t even in the top 5 of things I would list for Trump.

Anyone still hanging on to Trump at this point with everything he’s said and done, and everything that’s known about him, will not be moved one bit by any further details that could conceivably emerge about Trump’s friendship with Epstein and any behaviour he might have taken part in in that context. Trump has already been found liable in civil court for rape; anything new would need to be worse than that to be noticed. There’s likely no new light to be shed there, and even if something heinous and verified were revealed MAGA would simply dismiss it as a fabrication. Most of his base has, at this point, essentially granted him immunity for anything he may ever do or be shown to have done.

Actually, it’s been sort of like coming to the nuisance , but in reverse as by moving into an HOA you are agreeing to follow their rules.

There have been a few interesting cases dealing with election signs - and the last one I saw in VA ended in a compromise that the HOA was required to allow signage during a period prior and after an election, but could limit the size and number.

I don’t have an HOA, but frankly I don’t really like broadcasting my beliefs in public in my neighborhood. (I save that for the internet)

The Mueller investigation led to eight people with varying proximity to Trump - some from his inner circle - being convicted of crimes. Several went to prison. A bunch more in Russia are indicted but obviously won’t face American justice. I can understand why Trump’s personality cult would not be pleased with this outcome; it was not in their interest to have these proceedings and convictions showing how far the rot went.
