US Presidential Election 2024 - Trump vs ??? - Vote Hard with a Vengence

Donald Trump Isn't A Convicted Felon Just Yet And Can Still Pursue These Options To Fight Damning Verdict, Says Yale Law Professor

Story by Bibhu Pattnaik

A Yale Law professor suggested an alternative strategy for former President Donald Trump‘s legal team following his recent guilty verdict.

What Happened: In a new podcast, Professor Jed Rubenfeld discussed the former president’s legal options after a New York jury found him guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.

Rubenfeld emphasized that Trump is not yet a convicted felon because the judge has not entered a judgment of guilt. He explained that in New York, this judgment is expected to be entered on July 11, the same day as Trump’s sentencing.

What happens now after Donald Trump's guilty verdict?

NEW YORK, June 3 (Reuters) - Donald Trump, the first former U.S. president to be convicted of a crime, will remain a free man while he awaits sentencing and could avoid a prison term entirely for falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment to a porn star.
Here is a look at what’s next for the Republican candidate for president against Democratic President Joe Biden in a Nov. 5 election.

WHAT HAPPENS NOW?

The judge presiding over the case, Juan Merchan, must first approve the verdict and enter a final judgment, though this is typically a formality.

Most aren't voters though.

How do you figure? Her fan base is massive.

Article about Taylor Swift fan demographics: Who is typical Taylor Swift fan: Swifties are white millennials

She also wields quite a bit of economic clout when her tour comes to town.

She has the potential to be very, very influential should she choose to be. She’s no fan of Trump, and you can bet the democrats would love her to be vocal about that. It would be foolhardy for the Republicans to publish fabrications that she feels compelled to correct them on. Best bet for the GOP is she just stays quiet and doesn’t out her two cents in. Anything else is not to their advantage.

According to this Australian Broadcasting Corp. article, 45% of her US fans are Millennial, 21% are Gen X and 25% are Boomers. Potentially add in what's-his-name NFL boyfriend depending on what way he leans and if she/they decide to get involved.

There's a pretty down to earth video of her having a discussion/argument with her dad back in 2018 during the mid-terms where she wants to speak out against Tennessee GOP candidate Marsha Blackburn because Taylor feels that the policies Blackburn supports are dangerous to women. On the one side, she says she needs to speak out because she says she can't be on the "wrong side of history", but her dad pleads with her not to do for her safety. He mentions the armoured cars they've already bought for her. He was legitimately frightened that if she spoke out against such a staunch Trump supporting MAGA republican that her very life would be in danger.

She already has to deal with normal stalkers. Adding the political element would suck. Her dad is right.

Even if the Trump campaign just STFU and stop posting that stuff, without a clear retraction they aren’t out of the woods yet.

And she gets larger crowds than Trump (and they pay more to see her).
I personally know adults who have travelled to other continents specifically to see her Eras tour show. They flew from North America to Asia, saw the show, stayed a few more days, then flew back so they didn’t miss too many days of work.

Their main motivation wasn’t to go to Asia, it was to see Taylor Swift because the tickets were easier to get there.

I wouldn’t do it myself but her reach/influence is unbelievable.

Yup. No politician could, in their wildest dreams, organically drum up the sort of raw popular energy one of her tours generates. You don’t want to generate bad blood with the Swifties.

Did you read my responses with SKT? I already revised my stance. Late to the party.

Incredible isn’t it ?

All she has to say is “vote for (insert candidate name here)”
It might just work

It was still up when I was writing my reply, and when I clicked ‘messages have been posted since…’ Must have been a glitch, or we were typing at the same time.

That’s the thing - in the 2020 election she waited until very late to endorse Biden.

She prob would have done the same (with Harris) but this may force her to do it earlier, during the DNC when Dems are feeling re-energized after Biden dropping out.

This is going to be a close run thing. Closer than it was a month ago. Still I have this question:

America - can you not do better?
